Agree on removing the cabinet between the mirrors as it makes the room feel heavy. Fresh coat of paint on the walls, new light fixtures, lighter paint and add some nice hardware to the cabinets. My favorite thing about the bathroom is the window. I would consider a glass door over a shower curtain to draw in the natural light. Can’t wait to see the transformation.

Yes, a new vanity - so you'd push it away from the tub area. Maybe you can paint the 2 cabinets and have a contractor attach them together - then get a new countertop.

Please don't forget the floors - they are rather dark and can be lightened.

Agree with the others. One long vanity will give you more storage. And thinner framed mirrors will also open up the space. Are the floors able to be changed? The dark color isn’t helping. You can paint the them if removing them is too expensive.

every time I see pics of older beige/tan tile and grey walls all I think is; "trying to fit a round peg in a square hole"...it just doesn't work! Someone tried to "update" it and ignore the elephant in the room...which is the tan wall tiles and brown floor.

A few options could be painting your existing cabinets white and buying a storage tower to fit between them. Adding light fixtures on either side of each mirror would improve your lighting situation and is a recommended way to reduce shadows and glare. Tower from Home Depot.

Or you could add drawer storage between the cabinets and replace the counter, and use a linear mirror above with 2 light fixtures above each sink. You could use a vanity or tower between as well as shown in the images below.

Also, removing whatever is on the window and replacing with clear glass and a top down/bottom up shade would bring in more natural light. This would allow you to adjust the shade for privacy and leave the top half of the window open. Leaving the tub would add to resale someday and no room for a shower-as how would you access the window? Changing to a lighter wall color such as SW Accessible beige would blend better with your existing tiles above the tub as the grey is not great.

Do you have any dimensions/floor plan?

Storage issue - If the vanity is in good shape, the ebony color is fine and classic. What is missing is the bank of drawers to fill in the space between them.

Darkness issue - the wall-mount medicine cabinet is adding visual weight at eye level, so removing it will make a big difference. The floor tile is very busy so it draws attention down. Is a new floor in the budget? If yes, you can’t go wrong in the long-term with a classic bathroom black and white tile. Or an updated look with solid color rectangle floor tile with thin grout lines. There is a tile paint option. And the low cost option of a pretty rug (not bath mat or memory foam mat) laid on top of the old tile.

Easiest solution would be to replace wall-mounted cabinet with a full cabinet to the floor. Replace both floor and bathtub wall tile. Also, would consider new lights over the sinks. Try to utilize the cabinet to store what you have on the sinks.

The “dated” issue - countertop with integrated sinks seem dated to me, so a new countertop and undermount oval or square sinks will address that. The wall tile behind the tub is super dated, too. Regardless of the floor tile or countertop, you can’t go wrong with white subway or 1” square tiles there. These days the mirror does not match the vanity, any mirror in a thin metal frame looks fresher than a thick wood frame, matte black will outlast trendy finishes. 2 new mirrors can be pricey, so even a coat of paint or a swipe of gold leaf lightly brushed over the beading on your mirror frames would help. A single lever sink faucet would also update the vanity look. Chrome will always be classic in a bathroom, but mixing 2 metals is popular among decorators when selecting faucets, lighting, cabinet and towel bar hardware.

@marylut thank you! And it’s the lever for the water to fill the tub. I rarely use the tub though, I use the shower that’s behind that wall with the weird round thing that controls the water for the tub

Nice and large bathroom! Easy cosmetic changes will bring it to present day.

1.paint all walls white. Try SW Pure White- a versatile white without being harsh

2.replace bathtub tile with a white subway tile or a white penny round

3.remove glass shelves

4.get a shallow tower cabinet to house all the clutter on the shelves and sinks

5.keep towel rings and use them

6.add a white roman blind for the window

7.change light fixture

8.paint mirrors white or get new mirrors

9.add a rug
