I'm thinking you're going down the same road as another poster here did. The backsplash tile also has a lot of pattern to it. Does she have any pics or kitchens she can show you of the two together? You also mention that the floor has movement in it. All depends on the look you're after. I guess the Champagne Gold wasn't in the right tones. Have you also looked at porcelain tiles? There are beautiful ones to select from. No need to go all stone. I'm sure they'd love everyone to! Do you even need to do a tile backsplash? as that would be a lot of hard surfaces in the kitchen. Maybe just a narrow splash and paint? If you're not comfortable, just wait until you find a combination you love. There are tons of selections for backsplash applications. No need to rush or settle on something you're not sure of. Definitely pour over pics!

I agree with hpny2 - if you view your kitchen the way you view a painting or a photograph, there should be a main area of focus with details that support the focus and don't distract from it. Your granite is beautiful. If you want that to be your focus, then the backsplash needs to provide an easy transition for the eyes from the wood shelves to the countertop. Maybe look at some of the Heath Ceramics glazes in standard 4x4 tiles if you don't like subway tile. Another option would be to do a subtle dimensional tile in a very quiet, complimentary color. I like the dimensional tiles from ModCraft (link included), but pretty much every tile manufacturer has some kind of dimensional tile to explore. The only thing I'd absolutely stay away from would be mosaics. Here is a link that might be useful:

So, if I move the one to the right and center it above the sink, then it would be only 37" away from the one in the corner and I'd have a "hole" between the refrigerator and sink correct? I could add another slightly to the left of the refrigerator. The little remaining symmetry I had is getting blown too! A major concern is having too much light. My wife's very sensitive. I plan on a dimmer, so maybe that would take care of it? Does this one look more reasonable? ...and no that's not just your opinion on the downdraft. They really just don't work.

Have you looked for remnants? In a market like NY, you should be able to find some high-quality remnants. Most of the Pental colors are sold by half slab. Did they check if Misterio is one of them?
