power -- switch -- wire to light power -- switch -- wire to other switch This is what he said he had doesn't mater what he said about the rest any electrician that knows what he is doing can easily make the 3-way work with these wires. Obviously your not an electrician joefixit. He does have the light and power in one box but there is also power in the other box. The only reason you need to use a 3 wire is to send the neutral to the other switch so it can send it to the light. Well he has a neutral at the switch with the light according to what he said above. So if you tie the neutral through to the light cap off the hot on that side and don't use it you now have the neutral you need at the light. Land the black wire coming from the light to the black screw on the switch that is the common for that switch. Now according to what he said there is a wire running between the switches, so there should be a black and white in that wire, those are the travelers you now have your neutral, travelers, and common over at the switch going to the light. On the other side you have the power and the wire to the other switch so now you cap off the neutral cause you don't need it now cause there is one already going to the light after you do what I said earlier, the black hot wire is your common and it goes to the black common screw on the switch now there will be two wires left, according to what he said they are going in between the two switches so the black and white that are left are your two travelers. If your so sure this is wrong tell me how, because there is now way possible to make this not work unless the wire he said that were there arnt actually there I'm just going off the info given

I would want the island longer than you show it. And I would want the fridge and pantry accessible from the kitchen. Here is a quick sketch that might give you some ideas: I imagined the fridge on corner above the pantry with a corner susan to the left of the range. The pantry would essentially be recessed into the wall, in the same place you had it before but larger. A new short hallway would lead to the master bedroom. I am really not sure you want the master bedroom opening directly into the kitchen, and this hallway does not take any usable space from mudroom or pantry. Essentially you already had a passageway there--just no walls. I agree that I would NOT want the sink on the end of the island, although it is nice to have it as close as possible to the range. Typing the above comment brought this idea to mind. This shows seating around the end of the island. Most on GW seem to prefer seating that does not line up in a row but allows people to see each other. This also allows some room on each side of the sink and still places the sink near the range. Again, a very quick drawing: Notice that this also brings the fridge into the kitchen and greatly increases the pantry area, making part of it available directly from the kitchen. Aim the bulbs at the upper cabinet fronts and the island top. Then install LED strips under the uppers to light your work spaces. Light the glass front cabinets with LED inside. If you like, you can add LED above the cabinets too. If you still don't have enough light at the sink, consider hiring an electrician to run electric from the current fixture to the ceiling above the sink and install a can or pendant.

Here is an idea for you. Minimal framing and it would open up the kitchen space: 1. tear out the pantry and the internal walls of the powder room and the powder room sink. 2. Frame in a pocket door and solid wall for the powder room, reorienting the door. 3. change up the sink in the powder room for a very minimal thin sink hung on the wall across from the toilet and change the toilet to a round bowl that takes up less space. 4. Frame in a new wide archway to the dining room that is next to the stairwell 5. eliminate the existing door to the dining room 6. counters along the exterior wall with sink under window and cooktop on exterior wall for venting 7. countertop along dining room wall anchored by a double oven 8. refrigerator and pantry along opposite wall from sink - can make pantry depth of standard depth fridge to save on appliance cost - pantry can be doors with shelves all around or cupboards with pull outs. 9. island with 42" space to sink area and aligned with dining room opening 10. not to worry about work triangle with fridge because island becomes prep space see sketch:
