Victorian Living Room Ideas
Comments (9)It's difficult for me to see the space -- lighter photos and from additional angles would help. In fact, removing everything other than sofas (for scale) would help a lot to see what you have to work with as far as furniture arrangement goes. It looks like the tall cabinet between the windows is a built-in, but if it could move to the wall where TV is currently, it would be great. Is there a mantle and fireplace near the xmas tree, and a lovely high window on each end? Looks like maybe the newel post for a staircase near one of the sofas? Will you continue the crown molding into the foyer? To me it looks odd to limit it to one room. Also, the crown molding on the tall cabinet seems like it should be the same color as the crown for the room. I would suggest that you paint the dark woodwork the same white as the rest of you trim (I know, I know...) and keep the venetian plaster and ceiling colors very close. For me (admittedly not a Victorian), the contrast lowers the ceiling rather than accenting it in a harmonious way....See MoreI need help with wall colors in my living room, dining room, kitchen
Comments (2)Please clarify this statement... "I like more war, colors like the beige or light tan to coordinate with each other." Also it is hard to recommend colors without some idea of the space and how the rooms relate to each other. Do you have a floor plan, sketch or pictures that you can post to help us give you ideas? Whole house open concept or 3 separate rooms with doors or clearly defined separations for different colors of paint. Also what color & type of flooring, furniture, cabinets, rugs, art etc... Comments (8)You can do either, but if you're already worried about it being dark maybe go for a painted option. If you paint it, I suggest painting it the same color as the wall. If you do the stain, have him do a sample before so you can compare it to the trim before committing. You may find it doesn't match well enough and you don't like it. But instead of shelves maybe move the TV off of the fireplace. It seems like it's small enough to fit int he nook. It's placement is really ruining the Victorian look more than anything else. If you're looking to brighten things up maybe go for a warm white rather than yellow, which can be tricky to work with....See MoreHelp! What color should I paint my living room-dining room?
Comments (4)Since it is all so open, I would paint the same color in the kitchen, dining and living. Maybe the creamy white of your dining chairs would work throughout. If you don't want to paint the kitchen, you could bring that same color into the dining/living. Or you could take another shade from that same color strip/card and bring that into the living/dining. Other improvements: your rugs are too small, and so are your lamps. Your dining light is dated and your art is dissonant and not hung correctly. The coffee table is too large and heavy, and I would match drapes to the wall color once you figure that out. I do like your red cabinet and blue cache-pot! Have you thought about installing drown molding? How high are your walls? Here's a creamy white on walls (Navajo White) and brighter on trim (White Dove) so you can get the idea, even though this is not the style of your home....See MoreBeth H. :
