Well, I bought a quart of Revere Pewter, and one of Gossamer by Pratt & Lambert...just a tad deeper than the Feather Gray, as well as a test quart of Sherwin Wms Requisite Gray--the pretty one from Ttodd's old bedroom pictures. They are all so close. Seriously close. The Requisite Gray has the same depth as Revere Pewter, just maybe one slight tad more gray. The Gossamer is almost a match for Revere Pewter. So, now I've determined that what I need is something just a little warmer, and perhaps a shade darker. If you saw my living room right now, you wouldn't even know what to think. I've splotched a dozen things. All walls are painted. Just not the same!! Red

Thank you so much Lori for that very detailed explanation!! I feel very excited to buy a sample size of Balboa Mist to try out in our home. I think it would be an absolutely lovely color and definitely reassures me it was not a random choice!! I will update with news after I do the cardboard test. Thank you so much again! Ooh! I did forgot and should have posted earlier, but I was thinking of during the living room wall into an accent wall. I don't mind doing something sort of fun or different. The previous owners made this the accent wall and went with a shade lighter so we're considering keeping it an accent wall. If I choose this I might just do a shade lighter or darker of my paint choice. OR! Make this accent wall, on the wall with the door leading to patio. We are planning to swap out curtains and do a french door on that wall so it might make those white doors pop. Kinda of leaning towards this if we go with a 'stronger' color' Which wall is better for the accent wall? Or do neither work well? We were thinking of something like the color of the cabinets in this photo. Too intense? Feel free to suggest other colors.

The reason for your dilemma is that you are not approaching the job in the right order. You should start with the most permanent items and work from there. It's infinitely easier to select a paint color after changing the flooring and cabinetry than the other way around. Your flooring choices may be in the range of 5 or 10, but wall color choices are in the thousands. Painting the cabinets is a big job for a professional, and costs thousands of dollars, but you can do the walls yourself for next to nothing. And cabinets dominate a kitchen, so their color is more important than the wall color. That is why you select wall color last. And have all the adjacent colors in place when you select the wall color, since all colors are affected by anything surrounding them, including what's outside your windows. Lastly, you need to test out the colors in your room, with your lighting, during different times of day and night, because as you have seen, what looks good in one room can look vastly different in another room. This is especially true of neutrals, as you can see from Mary Lee's posts, their underlying hue can skew to a totally different color depending on the light (color inconstancy). My advice would be to hold off on painting the kitchen until the other projects are done.

Going to second the comment about the columns. The color is overwhelming and they, with the island, is dwarfing everything else. I suggest painting the the white of the rest of your trim, in the same semi-gloss. For the walls you need a color that works with both, the cabinets and the island. B.M. recommends Stone Harbor for Classic Gray. Stone Harbor will also go with the dark island.
