Exterior Design Dilemma Home Decorating

Help!! Shutters or NO Shutters?

I recently bought a new construction home and it needs some personality injected inside & out. There is something about the shutters I just don’t like and I want to take off. I have many people telling me to leave them on which makes me question my idea. I struggle with design ideas bc I like so many different decors although I think I love modern farmhouse the best. Thank you for any ideas or comments.

Shutters would be a great solution, especially since you mentioned kiddos sleeping. The larger the individual louver (slat, if you will), the more of your view you will be preserving when they are fully tilted open in the horizontal position. In my experience, most people don't open their shutters except to clean their windows. But of course the option is always there. Shutters can also be magnetized to the frame for some openings that aren't too large. If you choose to go with shutters, you will never have to think about your windows again. Consider it done. I personally love them, especially for windows that are unusually shaped such as yours.

No shutters. Extending the garage roof would be nice, but expensive--I think the arbor might be a great way to dress it up. (Painting the garage door to match the body of the house would be a good thing, too.) This house really doesn't need much. It looks pretty darn good as is and can be gently modified at a leisurely pace.

If your roof is brown tile, is it?, you might want a dark brown/black rather than a stark black on your trim. No shutters. Maybe those fan grills will pop off the garage windows. Note both the entry and garage doors in groveraxle's photo, very nice when the budget allows. If you even think to 'paint' the brick, look for a product like Romabio that is specific for masonry/brick, lets it breathe. Romabio.com

Thank you that is what I have been telling my husband. The purpose of shutters is to protect a window & they should be able to cover window when closed.

Your shutters are very skinny and ill proportioned for your windows. Take them off. Personality can be added to your home in other ways. With a colorful front door, hanging baskets on your porch, pretty landscaping. Good luck!

I love shutters, but in your case, agree with others. Your window trim is really nice and I think might look better alone.

I’d remove them, live with it a bit, decide from there. You can always put them back on. :)

You could always beef up the trim around the windows too (sorry, no visual for that)

Definitely no shutters. Once you get porch furniture and do some landscaping, your home will shine! Notice the visual interest in the image below ... wavy border, layers of plants of varying heights, color...
