Comments (10)the ONLY thing worse than planting it in july .. would be moving it in august.. IMHO ... i think you stressed the bee-gee-bees out of it.. it is responding.. and you are going to re-stress it to death ... i would leave it there ... it hasnt even had time to get PO'd over the soil .. what with all the interruption to its root system .. severe heat.. high humidity ... etc ... but then i cant really 'see' the situation ... hope you have a warranty ... ken...See MoreKorean Temple
Comments (13)Thanks, Mike-san! Welcome back from the Symposium! I hope you had a pleasant time, and will tell us about some of what you learned and saw. Didn't most of the Chinese cultural influnece on Japan have to travel there through Korea? Looking at the map, the Tsushima Straits look small compared to the open ocean between the Shan Dong(sp?) peninsula & Japan, and those seem to be the two most logical ways to get to Japan from China. Here's a question for everyone: When I try to understand this, I sometimes wonder if the realtionship between Korea and Japan has parallels to the relationship between France and Britain: Culture travels from the continent largely through the country just across the straits/channel, resulting in the highest fashions in art, craft, clothing, decor, etc. often being Korean/French. There's a similarity on the flip side too, in that familiarity breeds contempt, and proximity historically bred war, frequently between Korea and Japan, and seemingly incessantly between France and England. And I understand that the general social reputation of Koreans in Japan is not much better than that of the French in England. There are dissimilarites, of course: there was never a Korean Conquerer taking the Japanese throne in 1066, and so there is no intermingled language as with Norman French and Anglo-Saxon, and none (or very, very little?) of the royal houses holding lands and alliances on both sides of the water which seem to be at the root of so many of the Anglo-French wars. While I'm playing this game, I compare the role of classical China in Japan to that of Ancient Rome and Greece in England. Speaking Chinese/Latin & Greek was the trademark of the highly educated, art and architecture were widely copied and used for inspiration, certain classic Chinese poems (which I wish I could name:) might hold the same place in Japanese culture as the Iliad and the Odyssey. I've even read in a couple different places that Japanese people really like Chinese food (one Japanese-American author described it as being considered "the height of gourmandism".) And of the three finest restaurants here in Salem, two are Italian :) So, how about it? Is this a useful idea, or am I way out in left field? - Evelyn...See MoreWhat is your favorite exfoliator?
Comments (35)Wow, I'm learning a lot in here. I like brown sugar scrubs on my body, but it's more of a treat than a regular thing. I usually use a mesh puffy thing with a citrus body wash, a pumice stone on my feet and a gental scrub on my face a couple times a week. I am usuing Victoria Principals Reclaim, which I like pretty well. I usued to LOVE the Real Simple magazine when it first came out. It was a simple magazing with great ideas on how to simplify your life and creat simple pleasures. (simple, simple, simple) I was really disapointed when all of a sudden it felt like a Vogue with all those ads. How can you have simplicity and massive advertising at the same time? It still is a good magazine, if you have the patience the weed through the fuss....See MoreClothes Washer and Dryer
Comments (14)Miele invented the first automatic washing machine in 1914. It is right on their website and on wikipedia. Bendix may have been first in the USA (i didnt check), but Miele was first with the washing machine. They were also first with the fully automatic washing machine. Miele still makes their parts in-house. They have not recently started using more third party parts. They just expanded their own plastics manufacturing plant to increase their in-house capacity. They want good quality, reliable parts so they make them in house. That shows not only a commitment to quality, but also a commitment to parts availability. They guarantee parts availability for residential appliances for 10 years after the END of production for a specifc model. Residential laundry is designed for 10K operating hours or 20 years of service with a couple loads per week. I have a large family (13 at home) and have owned W1/T1 set. The washer is approaching 7k operating hours with no problems. There are ZERO other manufacturers who will even state a design life beyond a nebulous number of years. That means nothing without knowing how much the washer is being used. Speed Queen does NOT currently offer front load equipment to residential customers. They have not for several years citing demand from commerical customers. None of their washers have onboard heaters so a true hot/sanitize wash is not available if that is inportant to a customer....See MoreJilly
