HAVE: Have Blueberry/Grape/Grass/Magnolia/carolina jessamine
Comments (5)alwazeroom4more, The Pawpaw,Asimina triloba doesn't have a separate male and female plant. It's the way the flowers are timed to be fertile that causes them to need another variety to produce fruit. The Sunflower variety is about the only one I've heard to be self fertile. There are other species related to Asimina triloba (Asimina incarna, A. longifolia, A. obovata, A. parviflora, A. pygmaea, A. reticulata, A. tetramera, A. X nashii)that grow more in the Southeastern US.Asimina Triloba requires about 400 chill hours. I have some seedlings, three varieties of A.triloba, but not sure if they are compatible in your zone. Oregon Grape also grows around here in abundance. Brady...See MoreHelp a newbie with trees and shrubs
Comments (0)Hello I'm looking to plant some trees and shrubs in my yard this year, and I'd like to get some cuttings or seeds of certain ones. I'm fairly new to gardening, so I don't have a ton, but I could trade some groundcover geranium or just pay postage for the cuttings/seeds. If they're cuttings, I'd prefer if they were rooted, but if they're not that's ok too. Ok, this is what I'm looking for: Amelanchier (serviceberry) Buddleia Davidii (any cultivar) Calycanthus floridus (carolina allspice bush) Cercis Canandensis (Eastern Redbud) Flowering Quince (Chaenomeles speciosa) Red Buckeye (Aesculus pavia) Dwarf Fothergilla (Fothergilla gardenii) White Fringe Tree (Chionanthus virginicus) might take seeds with this one but prefer cuttings Fragrant Winter Hazel (Corylopsis Glabrescens) Rose Daphne (Daphne cneorum) I think White Forsythia (Abeliophyllum distichum) especially want this Sambucus Nigra (Elderberry with black lacy foliage) Viburnum Dentatum (Arrowwood viburnum) looking for blue muffin cultivar but will take any Calycanthus Floridus (Carolina Allspice Bush) any cultivar Weigelia (Weigilia) Hardy Silver Gum (Eucalyptus gunnii) for indoor plant Any fragrant viburnum Rose of Sharon Kerria Japonica (Pleniflora) Kolkwitzia Amabalis (Pink Cloud) Erica (Heath) Calluna (Heather) Philadelphus (Mock Orange) Snow White Fantasy Beautyberry (any hardy varieties) Meserve Holly (Ilex Meserveae) any If you have any of these e-mail me asap because I'd like to get them planted this fall. Comments (3)I haven't seen many of them, but what I saw were pleasant. Not spectacular, but certainly worthwhile. Frank Schmidt has a selection for better fall color. You could check to see if they would get you one in. Otherwise wait till fall color season to pick one out. Comments (26)We have a lot of (planted) A. saccharums around here in my neighborhood. Most turn color early to midseasonish, nice red-orange outside and orange-yellow to yellow on the inside branches. Most of these are street trees or near the street, and as a result, never look 100% healthy in the summer for the most part. There is one tree, however, that bucks the trend - it's a MASSIVE tree, about 65+ feet tall, probably 40 feet wide, I'd guess 36" or more dbh, very majestic, and has about a picture-perfect form for a Sugar Maple. It also stays deep green until Nov. 1 every year. Then, instead of orange, it turns a beautiful golden yellow, without a hint of orange or red. It does this every year. I'm guessing a different seed source or something about the soil it's in. Or, the others are cultivars and this might be a seed-grown, as it's much older (probably >50 years old if I had to guess) than the others....See Morenickel_kg
