Wood wainscoting vs subway tile in master bath
Comments (22)As Enduring mentioned, I went with wainscoting in a paneled style because I wanted to mimic the paneling on my staircase downstairs and the door style and side paneling on the vanity I chose. It was very inexpensive and easy for my contractor to do. He basically used 1" x 4" pre-primed wood to make boxes and then trimmed the inner part with a 1.5" ovolo moulding with mitered edges. Not hard and very cheap. Tile would have been a fortune and I didn't think that bead board wouldn't have fit with my style of house....See MoreInsert vs Firebox vs Fireplace please help!!!!!!!
Comments (13)Decomposition of organic material envolves the binding of carbon atoms into other living organisms and eventually into - OIL! By your reasoning, the hydrocarbons from organic material that decayed millions of years ago would already have been released. However, we know we are now releasing those hydrocarbons through the burning of oil/gasoline. Burning wood now immediately releases the bound carbon combined with oxygen (CO2) into the atmosphere. By the way, CO2 accounts for approx. 3 to 5 percent of the green house gases in the atmosphere. H2O, water vapor, accounts for perhaps 80 to 90 percent of the green house effect. So, maybe the next administration will think about regulating the clouds! If the 250 million autos now on the road were all hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, they would all be putting out - WATER VAPOR!! - a green house GAS!! There IS no free lunch - but the dems. are determined to make it so....See MoreBrick wall vs. brick fireplace
Comments (30)Tuesday, you are so awesome to help me! So, based on the idea that it's the color of my brick that is the problem, I looked up images online of dark mortar, and when I was out driving, looked for homes. I could find pretty much NO pics/IRL homes with dark mortar. Would you say that, esp. since yours is outdoor, it WILL fade, whereas mine being indoors (in a dark room), will just stay as-is? Anyway, I have yet to see a pic of dark mortar that I like. The room is narrow, so I think the enormity of the FP combined with the unattractive B/M is a problem. I am not sure what my options are, though, given that I want to maintain it as a working FP and that my budget is teeny! (Many DIY projects are done w/non-working FPs). I am thinking drywall or stucco would be the best options. Dunno....See Morecorner fireplace - Valor vs. Regency vs. Ortal/Lyric
Comments (16)and it actually provides another seating space that will make the space feel larger, assuming the rest of the space is addressed accordingly. No it doesn't because the room isn't large enough to allow for 2 seating areas. Plus with a 7'8" opening to the hallway and the bar area opposite, there definitely isn't any room to put furniture so what will happen is that fireplace will be sitting there being even more difficult to decorate around. Leggwork, do yourself a favor, and try laying out your furniture how you intend to have it in the space. That will help you to see whether or not it will work for you or not. I will say that normally a fireplace in a room should be the focal point of the room and not the poor cousin you ignore. With your layout and it in the corner like that, I'm afraid it will turn into that ignored cousin. :) What is the style of the house? That might help us to help you design a feature wall with a tv and a fireplace. :)...See Morecawaps
