Stair tread or plank flooring with trim on stairs
Comments (6)Tara, I am not a flooring person either but was given the same info by my flooring guy. I just put down a QS oak floor which included three stairs. I think the original treads were pine. My floor guy said not to mess with it that he would stain it to match floor. Well I'm not too crazy about how it turned out. My trim Carpenter said he could cover it with oak but the floor guy said it should have been done before floor was laid. I wish now I would have just replaced them....See MoreDarker maple floors, what color trim, doors, and stairs?
Comments (2)Saskastchewan - We're presently planning a mix of light & dark paints throughout the house. I agree about the dark/dark issue. Right now, I think we're leaning towards a shade slightly darker than the natural cherry wood, since the cherry will darken naturally, but nowhere near as dark as the flooring. How do you think lighter baseboards (almost natural oak) abutting the darker floors will look, though? I can usually picture these things in my mind, but for some reason, I'm having trouble with this one. I'm hoping someone has some pics of such a light/dark mixture. Searching the forums and web haven't been very fruitful. Thanks!...See MoreWhat part of stairs to paint?
Comments (3)The labor costs for stripping paint off the cove moulding would be high, so most of the time it is painted. If you really want it stained it will be easier to remove the current cove, sand the stair tread, install new cove, then stain and finish. Would not be worth the extra labor cost to me....See MoreWood Trim - what to paint and what not to paint.
Comments (8)It's your house. Paint as much as you like. This is rare for me but I do not mind the wood around the windows. I might keep it because it goes well with the colors I like. However, you are not me and it is fine to paint it all. Have you considered changing the railing and balustrade? From what I can see I would call the architecture modern. I would not add crown molding. If you paint the fireplace don't use the brightest white. It would be blinding with all those windows....See More- 3 years ago
