is a 72 inch round table too big for my dining room
Comments (15)I have a DR that is almost 13' square so mine is close to your size. My DR table (without leaves) is almost exactly 56" square. It looks great when no one is eating at it, but even without putting in a leaf (it will seat 5 a bit crowded, 4 better), it is hard to get around. I have a small sideboard on one wall, a chest on another wall, and no furniture on the 3rd/4th walls and it's still crowded. Serving is a nightmare as I cannot get behind the chairs to go around the table. If I put in a leaf (my leaves are about 24" wide), I can seat 6 comfortably. One Christmas, I had to put in 2 leaves, and the people at the end, well, one had his chair practically in the entrance into the LR, and the other was up against the french doors that lead to outside - it was awful and this was to seat 9 people! I cannot imagine how you can possibly use your table in this room, or any other table and hope to seat 10 people. It's just not big enough. It takes a BIG DR to hold a table that can seat 10 comfortably. My DD has a DR that is 15' x 16 1/2'. Her table is 52" wide and if she uses small chairs, she can seat two at each end and with two leaves in her table (a triple pedestal table), she can seat 4 down each side, thus 12 in total. One time, she seated 14 - it was very cramped - no b&b plates, single wine glass in the table setting....See MoreCoffee Table too Big!
Comments (21)I was actually going to ask if you had a very small coffee table or no table before, because I wondered if it was just the "differentness" that you were responding to. I think it looks totally fine. I think your sofa and chair (is that the only seating in the room?) need to be scooted closer together and that may help the room. Currently, it doesn't look like a conversational grouping because the sofa and chair are so far from each other...unless that's an optical illusion from the angle of the photo. I'd mix up the pillows on the sofa, too. Three matching pillows is a little...you know...ho hum. How about covering the middle pillow in a non-matching fabric? I'd also hang something larger over the mantel. The clock seems a little lost there. Maybe a colorful piece of artwork...then add some color elsewhere in the room. Everything seems fairly monochromatic that I can see. Looks like a dark red throw on the back of the sofa -- maybe you can use a few more touches of that red in the room? Finally, just another random thought, but it looks like the chair might need an end table?...See MoreAre my table lamps too big?
Comments (22)I don't mind the lamps at all. I think what is making them look out of scale right now is because you don't have anything else in the room that is higher/taller than those lamps. You just need to keep going. Hang your art over the fireplace. Hang your window treatments. I would put two very tall faux trees flanking the window wall. Once you get the rest of the pieces in place, those lamps will no longer be the highest point in the room and what your eye stops on. You're doing a great job, just keep going, don't stop....See MoreIs this coffee table too big?? please help
Comments (39)Your home is very pretty. Thanks for the extra pics. I love the dimensions of the black table. It seems like you'd get all the function without it being too big. The black legs are really nice too. If it could have a white or white marble top think it would be even better, brighter and not heavy looking. Seeing your whole space, I wouldn't paint the front door wall. Maybe try moving one chair where the love seat is, the loveseat in the alcove and setting aside the other chair. I'd treat the alcove as a separate sitting area. You could add a few lighter throw pillows or an afghan if that's your style too....See MoreRelated Professionals
