I was actually going to ask if you had a very small coffee table or no table before, because I wondered if it was just the "differentness" that you were responding to. I think it looks totally fine. I think your sofa and chair (is that the only seating in the room?) need to be scooted closer together and that may help the room. Currently, it doesn't look like a conversational grouping because the sofa and chair are so far from each other...unless that's an optical illusion from the angle of the photo. I'd mix up the pillows on the sofa, too. Three matching pillows is a little...you know...ho hum. How about covering the middle pillow in a non-matching fabric? I'd also hang something larger over the mantel. The clock seems a little lost there. Maybe a colorful piece of artwork...then add some color elsewhere in the room. Everything seems fairly monochromatic that I can see. Looks like a dark red throw on the back of the sofa -- maybe you can use a few more touches of that red in the room? Finally, just another random thought, but it looks like the chair might need an end table?

That is gorgeous!!! You have incredible style. And so does grandma! Two thoughts - Either, go with the “U” shape and put the grandma couch in a different space ( this is what I’d personally do because I feel like the navy one can be such a showstopping piece in a smaller space with not much else around it. ) Or you can skip the added piece and leave it as is. You do need a very big , heavy looking coffee table. I would do one. Again, stunning space!! Can’t wait to see what you do...

It's not too big...looks great. What's throwing it off the balance is the t v and stand that look so squat. Put the t v on the wall and style a taller unit so it corresponds to the heft of the sofa and the height of the coffee table. This piece is $238.00 from Wayfair. You can shop around and see if you can do better. If your handy, from the looks of the inspiration photo, you could make one with three stained boards. A suggestion, add an additional pair of drapes, some sheers, and extend the rod as far as you can without impacting the door. It will make the window look larger.

I wish you could see my daughters house. They actually have 3 large living rooms. A formal living room at the front of the house. A semi formal large den. And then there is the room you first see when entering from the garage, which is the door that everyone uses...guest included (I am not sure when the last time the front door was unlocked.) You walk into the room that shares the space with the children's play room. There is a large sectional and a comfy chair which are surrounded by play kitchens, forts, multiple toys, a dog and dog bed, coat and shoe racks, etc. There are built-ins with a large T.V. (the den also has a large T.V. and comfortable furniture.) Naturally, this is where everyone hangs out. Relax and enjoy this time with your family!
