Engineered Wood Installation Question

JK McIntosh

I have an engineered wood that was installed 16 years ago, glued to the concrete floor. The concrete was well seasoned and leveled to be a good base. I am wanting to change out the floor. I was told that it has hollow sounds, though I had never noticed it. (The gentleman knelt on the floor and knocked on the wood to test for sound consistency.) I don’t get popping sounds or squeaks. This room is a small room, about 280 sq ft, and has very light traffic. Can I install another engineered wood over it without removing the old wood floor? If so, how thick does the new floor have to be? I have read both 1/2” minimum and 3/4” minimum. I appreciate your expertise.
