That picture of the Polar Bear zinnia looks nicely white. There are several strains of zinnias that do have good whites. You mentioned "light green" and Burpee's White Wedding zinnias have been accused of that. Perhaps wrongly. The center of White Wedding is green, but the petals seem pretty pristine to me. However, White Wedding is a low-growing compact zinnia, which is not "my cup of tea" because I like to cross-pollinate my zinnias, and stooping over to do it is extra effort that I prefer to avoid. Polar Bear is an heirloom zinnia breed. The "dahlia flowered" zinnias were introduced by Bodger Seeds in the 1919 to 1935 time period. There were a total of 18 separate colors, and your Polar Bear White was one of them. The problem with any heirloom variety is that you are at the mercy of the seed growers who have been maintaining the purity or lack of purity of the strain. White zinnias are grown in a separate field, to prevent bees from introducing non-white zinnia pollen into the field. That happens occasionally anyway, but the seed growers usually hire some field workers to go into the field at the time the zinnias are coming into bloom and kill any non-white zinnias. As someone who grew a white cactus flowered zinnia strain next year, I can attest to the fact that those workers who "rogue" the field just killed the non-white zinnias (or almost all of them). They do not do anything to maintain the quality of the plants, or the quality of the flowers themselves. As a result, only about 1% of my white cactus flowered zinnias were indeed cactus flowered. There were many single or nearly single daisy looking zinnias, many of the blooms were much smaller than cactus flowered zinnias (which usually range from 4 to 5 1/2 inches in diameter.) Essentially none of them resembled the picture of a white cactus zinnia. It is quite possible that you will have a similar experience with Zinnia Polar Bear. I am trying to breed some good white cactus zinnias, so I will be planting some more of those seeds again this year, looking for a few good specimens that I can intercross and save seeds from. I will also plant a bunch of Burpeeana Giants zinnias, looking for the occasional white specimen that I could use as a breeder. You might get lucky with Polar Bear, but you might want to take a look at Benary's Giant White and the dahlia flowered white zinnia seeds that are sold to market gardeners who grow zinnias commercially for sale to florists. Good luck. That is what we both are depending on. The Benary's Giants seem like your best bet. The description of that dahlia flowered white hints that they aren't so good. Thank you mdln for replying. I wish my link for store's sample kitchen above would work as it is gone. The kitchen designer had a brand new large sample door made for me and another client but would not leave it here for me to really analyze. The soft White was a little whiter than the Home Depot's Inner Most door sample (Divinity Classic) that I had here that I felt was too yellow in my lighting and with my tiles despite really liking it in a kitchen reveal on this forum. The Polar White (think the sample door was much older) with the 3,000K LED bulbs I was using did not look as nice with my tiles as the soft white in this lighting and actually had a gray look which surprised me. So maybe it is the lighting that I plan to use as I like white that is not so yellow. The Soft White was slightly darker and creamier than my bedroom set that I love so much that is Durham Maple with a rubbed out sand white finish. I had my heart set on the Polar but I think it does not go with my tiles and amazingly the soft white did in the light I plan to use as I only have one LED bulb in this light spectrum. I just do not envision my kitchen being too yellow but I don't want stark white either despite how wonderful it looks with the right counter and accessories in the kitchen of others as that did not look right with my tiles either. I already bought the kitchen floor tiles which I know I should have bought after the cabinets. Every kitchen that I see in Polar White or Soft White on this forum I have fallen in love with so maybe when all the doors are either white, it just looks white. The Eggshell is too warm for me.

* Also when looking at the hallway ^... that photo of the "door" to the right is actually an elevator door...(Its faux painted...done before we moved here.) That is also the dilemma... if husband paints trim white... there is that door and I do NOT want to paint it white. so can the trim around the door be painted?

We closed on our house today wahoooo! I only got to spend about an hour there but looked quickly at the samples for trim/doors/ceilings. I think I've narrowed it down to three possibilities: BM Simply White, SW Extra White and BM Super White. I thought about BM Chantilly Lace too. Basically, looking at the finishings, my first gut is that BM Simply White looks the best. I just worry it may look too yellow once up on everything. At least that's what I read (and you know how reliable the internet is). First question: has anyone had experience with BM Simply White? Does it just read warm or do you see the yellow in it when it's one trim/doors/ceilings? So I may go that direction, or wonder if I should go with a cleaner white but something close. Something still a little warm... As for the runners up, from what I can see SW Extra White and BM Super White are very similar but Extra White maybe looks a little warmer? Maybe because it has more chroma? Is this understanding accurate, Lori A. Sawaya?? And it seems to me that the order of warmth would go SW Extra White, BM Super White, BM Chantilly Lace... is that a correct reading? Again for context - East/West exposures with a lot of shade. Wall colors aren't chosen but would likely be something along the lines of BM Edgecomb Gray, BM Ballet White, BM Chelsea Gray, BM Natural Cream. Daughter's room will be BM Opal. I'll try to take some pics of the finishings tomorrow but would love any thoughts on this. Thanks!
