What is my best option for downdraft recirculation?

I'm remodeling my condo using a 36" Samsung induction cooktop on my island but no option to vent to the exterior. I was planning to purchase the Zephyr model DLI-E36ASX for downdraft and recirculation purposes. Any thoughts?

We were going to do a pop up blower in our island (Best brand). We previously had a pop up vent but the old cooktop was less deep. Unfortunately the depth of cabinet was not big enough to accommodate both the deeper cooktop and the newer vent. When ordering your cabinets, make sure you take this under consideration. You will need 1-2 inches of countertop for the vent to rest on also. We had to cancel our order and get an integrated vent cooktop.

A downdraft with a replaceable charcoal filter is preferable because it works to eliminate odors. See the Miele DA689.

Soil is nothing more than rock. Sand is coarse rock parts, silt is finer rock and clay is the finest/smallest pieces of rock. So you already have soil, unless uour soil is only a couple inches deep or you need to fill in some ares you don't need to add soil. Now your soil might not be good, but that can be corrected with ammendments. Orrganic matter gives soil its tilth and water holding capacity. Roots and dead weeds are organic matter and will decompose. As organic matter decays it returns some chemicals (like nitrogen) to the soil for new plants to use. So contrary to the dead roots being a problem, they are actually a benefit. You just need to RU the lawn and scalp and bag and rake up the loose matter. Also remember that compost is just decaying organic matter and once fully decomposed there isn't much left--so not a good fill material. Do not till, that is just going to cause you more grief. I recommend you do two things first: 1. Get a soil test ASAP. Logan Labs in Ohio (about 150 miles due south of you, does a thorough test in about a week or less for $20. 2. Do a jar test. Clean the grass/weed growth off the surface of a small area and collect a sample of the soil down about 4-6". Pick out any stones and place it in a mason or pickle jar until the jar is about 2/3 to 3/4 full. fill the jar almost to the top with water and shake to get all the zoil suspended. Use a magic marker to mark the level of the settlement after 2 minutes, and again at 2 hrs. What settles out first (first line) will be sand and gravel, then silt and finally clay. This will give you a good idea of what you have. Also the hole you dig will show how much soil there is between the surface and the stone--by stone I mean a gravel bed--not just some stone. How far downbefore the soil is more that 50% stone? Post back with what you find.

Berbel extractor hood has the best recirculating technology but currently only available in Germany and UK. In conventional hoods grease is absorbed in filters. Grease particles clog the pores of the filter, and hood performance is reduced in increasing proportions. This is a very timely thread. This past week we were out looking for refrigerators to replace the single door, black board front, counter deep, freezer on the bottom model that is freezing everything. Unfortunately, we can't find single door models and may have to go with the French door type which may be a problem with a counter. Now all of a sudden tonight our duel fuel Jennair's door hinge broke. I already know they no longer make replacement hinges. We also have the additional tall backsplash and shelf that you could add onto this range. hubby just wants to replace the jennair but I never liked the down draft in the middle. Years ago at another house we had a thermador stove top with a pop up downdraft and loved it. grant it I had an additional draw outside but it did its job without cooling down what I was cooking. We have to use some for of down draft and Im not sure what to do. Does anyone know if thermador has a range with a down draft. Oh yeah and because of the tall jennair backsplash and shelf I have the counter trim backsplash that is everywhere else in the kitchen isn't behind the range. ::::sigh:::: what to do :(

I'm not sure what the question is. Are you asking how to get the soil to be lighter in texture? The answer is compost, a lot of compost over time. If it's more clay than sand, be careful not to dig it when it's wet, as it may set up like concrete and make hard clods and chunks. Dig in a couple inches of compost before planting. Use mulches that will decompose rapidly to add additional organic matter during the growing season - grass clippings, leaves, shredded yard waste or wood chips.

I've read that the Best D49M36SB is a good downdraft hood. Regardless of which appliance you choose, there are extra charges for the blower, recirculation kit, and filter.

I am installing a new Over The Range microwave to replace a burned out old microwave in the same spot. There is No ventilation ductwork in the cabinet above the microwave, this is why the old microwave burned out. It would work fine for about 8 minutes than struggle because no ventilation. Do I need to vent this outside or I am doing something wrong with the vent on the microwave, like position the fan up or down so it isn't blowing right into the back wall and burning out? Please help anyone.

Most OTR microwave ovens are pre-configured to exhaust into a duct to the outside. If you want to change the way the oven exhausts or set it to recirculate, you must reconfigure the oven before you install it as shown in Section 2 of these GE installation instructions.

The CR-recommended Whirlpool WMH53521HZ is pre-configured for recirculation. So if you want an oven you don't have to monkey with, this would be a good choice.

Down draft exhaust is really a poor choice at the best of times even when it vents to the outside IMO get a you need to look at at least a hood that is recirculating over the cooktop . I think Vent-a hood makes one .

Recirculating hoods tend to work best with additional units located nearby that exchange air with the outdoors. This type of setup is prevalent in Europe. Downdraft venting just doesn't work all that well for heavy cooking. Is there no way to do an over-the-range hood with replaceable charcoal filters? Alternately, you could look into an outdoor grill for all your heavy cooking if you have balcony or other porch access and forget about venting anything indoors given the relative ineffectiveness of downdraft.

Light a match and blow it out. Now light another one and try to blow it out in reverse, by sucking air instead of blowing it. I’ll bet you can’t. And that’s a downdraft.
