Name That Plant!

Help to ID this baby plant

Hello! I'm hoping someone can identify this plant which is just starting to poke up. I know it may not be possible to tell until it grows more. My mom can't remember planting anything in this area, and wants to plant a rose there....I don't want to move it for her without at least a general ID. Many thanks for any help!

I always try to preserve milkweeds if possible 'cause they're the main food source for the Monarch caterpillars. I've even dug some up in the middle of my grass lawn & replanted off the mowed-lawn into sunny spots.

Thank you both for helping me! I'm thinking that what I saw on the dill last fall were ladybug larvae. There were tons of adult ladybugs there too. I had no idea that the ladybugs would harm my cats! No wonder you all put the cats in such safe places. Guess I'll be doing that this summer! The only cats I really had before were on parsley on a corner stand on my deck. All three cats were on the parsley when I bought it, and we were so lucky to watch them through all the stages. tdogmom your butterfly site is wonderful! So much information! Thank you so much! Nicholas, do you have an ID for the green plant in your top pic? It looks like a crassula ovata type but maybe a monadenium. If you don't have an ID, please post a side-view pic. On your two miniature aloes, there are so many on the market now and many are very similar from different hybridizers. I think I have the one in your bottom pic, I'll see if I have a label for it. You might Google 'miniature aloes' in Images and see if you can find some with names that looks like your two plants. Hybridizers of minis are Kelly Griffin, Dick Wright, Karen Zimmerman, Tim Harvey, Ed Hummel and Robert Grimm. If you Google some of these names you can see some of their hybrids, you'll marvel at the brilliant colors in some of their crosses. Thanks, we are near Rochester NY if that would help. I was hoping someone might recognize it, most plants are already up and growing here so it is a late riser whatever it is.

the longer the roots .. meaning perennial .. the longer it takes to warm the soil down thru the roots .. and to therefor break dormancy ... and that may be why its behind other things .. you cant compare anything based on that observation alone ...

it also suggests.. its not random seed.. since the surface soil warmed long ago...

so wait a week or two more.. and shoot us a pic.. and hopefully we can secure the ID ...

that said.. if you are visiting mom and wont be back.. slave labor for moms cooking.. or something like that.. just get rid of it.. and make her happy ... never screw with the cook .. lol ...

and.. if your curious.. take it with you .. pot it up.. and see what comes of it.. you can always gift it back to her for another meal .. lol ...

ps: i moved 60 miles from mom .. and visited every other weekend .. splitting w/e with bro .... and at 85 i had to tell her .. ma.. i work harder in your garden this two days a month.. than i do on my 5 acres .. lol ... but now that she has passed.. its those sunday meals i miss most.. and cant quite recreate ...

The timing is right for milkweeds to just now be emerging. It would have milky later even now. Once 1 or 2 sets of leaves unfold, it will be easier to know which species.

Thank you everyone! Milkweed is very likely! Her neighbor has a butterfly garden.... Ken you hit the nail on the head, spending a few days helping her with getting the garden in order. In any case I have moved it to an out of the way area and transplanted her rose in its place so she is happy. Thanks everyone for your help.
