Are you inquiring to remodel this existing house or building a new house from scratch?

IMO the front is too monumental , and the columns are too heavy for the house. However, it looks like the door wall is a lot of window, so you'd have to have a large portico or something to let the light in. A smaller portico would impede the light, though maybe you could consider a shallower portico?

Your last photo must be a two-storey version? It looks like there's another row of windows below.

IMO take the stone off the pillars. It doesn't go with the rest of the house.

New construction. It’s a single story with cathedral ceilings, thus the extra windows. I am thinking of removing the windows to the sides of the double doors at the entrance and adjusting the windows above the door to fit the width of just the double doors. I just wasn’t sure if they needed to be the exact style as the windows in the back, such as the triangle shaped.

This is such a cool design. Awesome property. I’m excited for it to take shape.

Before you set off changing the front elevation perhaps it is best to evaluate the entire plan to see if it truly works for you and your property.

What compass direction will the house be oriented and what region of the country is it in?

Now I see why it looks like there's another row of windows underneath: that's the view from the rear of the house.

I also can see the appeal of that big room. I really like it, too.

I like the coloring of the columns in the last photo more than the olive-brown one. It makes the portico look less like a fort. The rest of the house is so much more delicate than the entrance, and the glass has that light and airy feeling....

You might need to keep all the glass at the front portico just to maintain the light inside the house, but this may depend on how the house is oriented.

We have a somewhat similar layout at our recently built lakehouse. We went with double doors on the front with a rectangular window above, which allow plenty of view through to the back of the house with the large windows. I think you'd be doing something similar.

I am not a fan of how those windows line up at all, it would drive me insane.. Check out some designs by Max Fulbright, a lot of his designs have window walls and may give you some ideas. We are currently building his Appalachian Mountain III.

I would analyze the site, determine your needs, and design a home that met your needs and fit the site.

The window composition style at the front door of your example seems to conflict with the style of the exposed timbers of what I assume is the entry porch. I would guess the house in your example was an east coast Post-Modern Shingle house remudeled with an attempted Pacific Northwest rusticity. You will be better off starting from scratch than having to deal with dated residue.

Great feedback! We are building on top of a hill with lakefront view in front and 40 acres of open rolling pastures in the back with visibility of about 15 miles. Beautiful views in all directions. I greatly appreciate the guidance. It has given me some clarity!

I don't quite see how one accesses that back porch from the interior, but I'm sure there must be an exit. Outlining the windows and door areas in white is boxing up the house too much for me. A lakehouse color like BM's Crisp Romaine would be much prettier and not so stark, IMO. I have issues with the contradiction between the inside window configuration and its conflict with the patterns created over them by the monster portico. Reducing the volume of the portico's supports and removing the center detail might be all you need to do for the two visuals to meld better.

Do you like your view dissected so much up here where I've circled it? If it were me I'd want the beams to be lined up to the space between the windows. The top window is a view of the roof. For the front, my eye doesn't know where to look. It sees geometry shapes rather than flow. I think you could achieve an open look with more narrow door side windows, and if you want triangles, have the middle window line up with them. I would go look at what Brandie May suggested MAX FULBRIGHT and look at the symmetry of those windows and the beams in those designs. Or if you're at the beginning stages, seriously consider one of them instead. The symmetry of the picture you show is out of balance in multiple ways.
