Hi Airycat: I like art quilts and am trying to learn more. I belong to an art quilt group through my guild and there are some very artsy gals in the group. So far I have done a small vine-type quilt (saw a picture of it in an old magazine and copied). It turned out well (which surprised the heck out of me). I have done a lake scene (someone on this site was giving lessons...Teresa NC 7 listed under landscape quilts. I did an underwater quilt which everyone in the group liked and I was pleased with. I took a class in thread painting and have to finish that project (mountains, trees, lake, flowers, etc.) I must have ADD also since I have a problem completing anything large. That's a good sign auntjen!! Definitely centered looks much better, I love that piece, if it doesnt fit there, it wont be hung in this house :>( I dont come anywhere near it when I sat on the toilet, but will have to see what DH thinks. He is more like an elephant in a china shop type of guy...

Yes, you can do either. If you do purchase art that is a standard size, you can go someplace like Michael's and buy an off-the-shelf frame for it (black, white, or wood-tone only). Leave the canvas on it's stretcher bars and hold the whole shebang in the frame using what are called offset clips, which are available in different depths, to hold the stretched canvas to the frame (the canvas is usually deeper than the frame and will stick out a bit in the back--the offset clip jogs so one side will lie flat against the frame and the other flat against the stretcher bar with a jog in the middle). No glass over a canvas; just put it straight into the frame.

I would put another piece of art in the space. But I'd find longer, vertical in orientation and more narrow than the piece you don't want to mooooove. Old Bossy up on the wall is setting the rulez ;-)
