In my opinion, any manufacturer would be better than Showplace cabinets from Showplace Wood Products, Inc. We completely remodeled our kitchen this year and purchased $18,000+ of Showplace cabinets from Showplace Wood Products, Inc. through a local dealer at the beginning of March, 2008. Worst decision I have made this year. We put down a 60% deposit and were told the cabinets would arrive in 5-6 weeks. They arrived more than 10 weeks later at the beginning of June. We did not receive our full order and what we received had numerous problems. Of what we did receive, 90% of the doors and drawer faces had flaws that required replacement. The flaws included: chip outs at the panel joins, door insert panels had the wrong side facing forwards, glue rag marks, inconsistent and poorly sanded drawer panel ends, and staining flaws. Three of the cabinets were the wrong size and had to be reordered. We were told the replacement order would be expedited due to the already lengthy delays we had experienced. Not true. After another 8 weeks we received the replacement cabinets but had to wait another few weeks for the door and drawer faces (due to the significant number of flaws they had to have a special meeting which dragged the process out even longer). When they did arrive about 30% of the replacements had flaws that required they also be replaced. The dealer and Showplace's manufacturer's rep assured me they would be replaced. It is now the middle of October and our kitchen is still not finished. The dealer hasn't returned calls for 4 weeks. The manufacturer's rep on the other hand has returned calls and is looking into the situation. Other than the poor delivery time, slow customer service, and poor quality finishing, I would also add that the cabinets do not have the build quality I expected or was led to believe that I would receive. On the plus side, the design is very nice, the frontal appearance is very good, and drawer construction is very solid. On the negative, the cabinet walls are only 3/8" plywood construction and the backs are at best an 1/8". The cabinets are poorly braced and my cabinet installer had to rebuild the oven cabinet so it would support our built-in oven. The thin wall construction means that the cabinets 'rack' easily making it very difficult for my cabinet installer to true them up during installation. But you will not find the cabinet wall thickness mentioned in any of Showplace's marketing materials. I sifted through their website and .pdf materials but cabinet wall thickness is artfully omitted. In my opinion these cabinets look good but are not built to last. I have since learned that I could have had custom cabinets built with much higher quality for equivalent dollars. And if I had, my kitchen would be complete by now. My dealer told us we could expect our cabinet install to take 3-6 weeks from the time the cabinets arrived. It is now 5 months and it is still not done.

First off, if it is closer, Norfolk now has a showroom in Salem, NH - I actually switched to that one as it is only about 20 minutes from my house (Andover, MA). My salesperson also moved so that made everything easier. Anyway, I have not yet seen my cabinets. They are in the warehouse in Nashua but we aren't ready yet. Kitchen is gutted, but we are doing substantial reworking of the space (moving windows, door, taking out stairs etc) so it will be another 2 weeks or more before my guy can start putting in the cabs. I will say, it only took about 4 weeks for the cabinets to come in, so they are quick. From my experience so far, I'd recommend at least checking out Norfolk (they also sell a couple of less expensive lines). I thought the service was reasonable, given the price. The Showplace cabinets seem very well made for the $$ - plywood boxes, nice glides, good hinges, solid wood doors etc. They have a good selection of door styles and wood species and the upcharge for cherry or painted is a lot less than other mfrs. (5% compared to 15-20% at other places I considered). On the downside, you will need to handhold with them more than with a real KD - they had some good layout ideas, but nothing I'd consider breakthrough. The folks there are more cabinet salespeople, I'd say (which isn't all that uncommon). Of course, they did do multiple renderings for free. Let me know if you have any other questions! BTW, I love your kitchen and am green with envy at your lovely Crown Point cabs - I lusted after those, but the amount of construction and other basic work we needed precluded the custom route (which is how I ended up with Showplace).

Showplace is decent mid grade quality. I have a personal bias against cutesy names spelled with K when they mean C or have e's on the end. The only thing that would make me grind my teeth worse is calling themselves Olde Kustome Kabintry. If your work is good, you don't need marketing silliness. There is a whole world out there beyond just the two brands that you mention. Don't be in a hurry to get your project done until you've done more research. I'd want to know why your KM warped personally. Did you keep the humidity controlled in your home through the use of AC in the summer and a humidifier in the winter? Did you have kitchen ventilation to remove the cooking moisture from the home? Or, at least open a window? All cabinet lines require that basic level of home care for the warranty to be in effect. What size doors were warped? Oversized doors tend to be more prone to that than those less than 24" wide and 42" tall. Do you have any pictures of what you're talking about? KM does have a lifetime warranty, and I never had any issues with them doing a warranty replacement.

I don't know about the other brands, but we just had Greenfield installed last year. Our design build firm usually works with another company (can't remember which one) but I really wanted frameless construction, which the other company didn't offer, so we went with Greenfield. I have been very happy with them. They look beautiful, the soft close glides work well (although we have had to get the builder back to adjust a couple of them...something we were told is normal for all cabinets). And I LOVE the frameless construction...I can fit stock pots and other tall items in drawers that never would have fit in framed cabinet drawers.
