Soil test results, feed me phosphorus??
Comments (7)First, a warning. I'm not happy with Penn State's tests, their accuracy is...well, I'll be kind and say so-so. We (I) recommend Logan or UMass. But I'll read this and include my recommendations below, which are similar to the ones given on the sheet. pH 7.7: High, which would surprise me for most Pennsylvania soils (there are areas of the state that ride more alkaline, but for the most part we're in the strongly acid range naturally). It's not a problem even if accurate, but your lawn color will suffer a bit as iron isn't very available. CEC 17.6: A heavy silt soil, possibly with some actual clay (clay is like unicorns. Everybody knows what it is, almost nobody has ever seen the stuff). Your soil, once balanced, will tend to stay there. But once it drifts, it takes a lot of material to re-balance it. Phosphorus 23: On this test, 30 would be the goal. Any starter fertilizer (20-27-5, 18-24-6, or anything where the second number is the largest) will work well to raise this. Just get the cheapest, they're all pretty much the same. Recommendations below. Calcium 85.1%: Very high (target is around 60-65% in a soil with that CEC), but that's not a problem. Calcium is not toxic to grass in any amount, even growing grass in limestone chips. That's good, because it's almost impossible to get rid of it. This is setting off your high pH. Magnesium 12.2%: Perfect. High magnesium makes soils tight, hard to dig, and they tend to crack when dry. This is exactly where it should be. Potassium 2.7%: Technically a little low, but not a problem at this point. Put this on the watch list. Organic Matter, Minor Elements: Not tested. Recommendations: Memorial Day: Apply starter fertilizer at bag rate. Labor Day: Apply starter fertilizer at bag rate. October 1: Feed normally with a high-nitrogen fertilizer....See MoreI'll show you mine/you show me yours - Th 3/23/23

Comments (19)I love all the seasons! I can’t pick just one. When I think of my childhood I think of all the fun we had in winter. I love cold sunny winter days and full moon winter nights and the stillness in the air.💕 Hot, hot weather is my least favourite. It’s easy to dress warmly and enjoy the outdoors in the winter but there’s not much you can do outdoors when it’s too hot....See More- 5 years ago
