gsciencechick - I have seen pictures of white wainscoting and antique white walls and it looks very elegant. White is a common color for trim and cabinetry, so that's what I would choose for your cabinets. Then go different on your walls. I'm not sure about the wall color. Ask at the Home Decorating Forum.

I probably would stay away from bright white walls, which may only serve to make cabinetry appear dirty. Who chose the cabinetry color? Nobody can advise minus a photo, and any decision will be affected by light and exposure in the home. I hope you have seen all your elements chosen, WITH said cabinet tone. In person. None of which we're seeing so we would need a crystal ball : )

Since you can't bring the cabinet to the paint store, can you get a paint deck (those big books of paint strips) and bring it to the cabinet store? When you are there, ask what their lights are. What color temp (3500k, 4000k, 5000K, etc) and CRI (color rendering index). Or ... just ask to see the box that the bulbs came in (they must have extra bulbs in the back). If you know what lighting to replicate in your home (to match their showroom) and you have the paint deck with you, you can start narrowing it down to a handful of choices. Personally, I wanted a "not white" that showed up against white ceiling paint & white trim, so I went with SW Eider White (https://goo.gl/images/R7Rs3E) That is a picture from Pinterest, I only WISH my house looked like that. I think my SW paint deck was like $5 many years ago and it's been a god send. I use Benjamin Moore paint, but they can match SW colors, so buy whatever deck you can buy. You want the full thing, honestly, because it helps you shade things "a little less purple" or "more blue than green" to fan thru the deck. Good luck, and remember that at some point you are 90% there and just playing in the margins.

I am a big fan of SW Alabaster White. I live in a house with lots of natural light, lots of wood, colorful artwork. This color is a wonderful warm white. I love it so much, that in the new house we are building I am using it again. It helps that the house is sited the same direction and is not very far away so I know how the light will reflect. But the new house is different style, there is still a lot of wood, but there is also a bit of metal with iron beams and railings. The color still looks great. I did the trim in SW Highly Reflective White it is a brighter white and really pops. I have a pantry cabinet wall which is wood, not sheetrock and I dont mind the difference in the way the paint sheen is, it works fine for me.
