Better Price on Heavy Duty Garden Clean up Bags?
Comments (25)th you hostaholic. will report back from the battlefront!(the searching battlefront, that is!) along w the rest of you who depend on these bags, some of my fav things about them are: they are MAJOR lightweight- like a feather- and because of this and their loosely formed structure, they can be set down anywhere, even temporarily on top of plants. they don't have a 'rigid' bottom, like the barrel form of them, so they can just be tossed on the ground and they will open up to receive your tossed debris (their wideness makes exact aim not so critical as it is with other clean-up receptacles.) i think i made up that word,'wideness'? 'Width' just wasn't a big enough word for me i guess. Anyway, i am notorious for going out into the gardens unprepared; yanking out my snippies and willy nilly pruning away and tossing stuff on the ground. And in this perpetual cartoon, My Love is running up behind me and tossing down the clean- up bag! anyway, now that i'm actually starting to remember to grab one on my way out, we want more of them, so thus The Quest. best, Mindy The Cotton-Arbo retum...See MoreBulk Garden Soil for Raised Bed
Comments (57)I don't understand it sounds like you guys are spending a lot for soil delivered you can get cheaper at home depot. Someone posted they got 7 yards for almost $300. I get 7 yards compost at home depot for $56 and 7 yards soil for $56. Then 4 bricks of coconut coir from Amazon for $44, vermiculite for $20, azomite $30, worn castings $ 8, and manure for $14. This fills my two 4x4 raised beds 5 totes, and numerous pots for $228. Are you sure your getting a good price or am I missing something? Oh and home depot does military discounts so I get a discount this goes for retired too....See MoreBest place for bulk mulch in KC metro?
Comments (7)I do not like Missouri Organics compost. It often smells of incomplete breakdown and if you leave a small pile of it out you will notice salts start to build up on the dried edges. I dont care how much cheaper it is - Never again for me. If you are a KC resident you can get free wood mulch from the city. It is NOT the greatest and is not double ground (so some large pieces and trash need to be culled out). You can spread a layer of this and then better mulch on top of it to reduce cost though. MulchMart and Suburban are both ok places in south KC to get mulches. I prefer MulchMart's compost and mulch choices but they are pricey. I do not care for Suburban's compost (they cut it with field soil and that increases annual weeds). It often smells of incomplete breakdown too but not as bad as MoOrganics. I think it is Mart(?) Brothers about Roe and Merriam Dr also have decent double ground mulch for those in central KC, nrth JoCo or south WyCo. If buying soil Johnson County topsoil is the way to go. I dont recall the name but there is a company in Blue Springs/Lee's Summit that sells both pulverized soil and sterile soil (I suspect they steam it). That is pricey though but worth it if you have the money or are concerned about adding weeds. Avoid soils which come from the river bottoms (specifically ask were it came from). It is often sandy, has a low organic material content so it compacts quickly and is often FULL of weeds....See MoreBest bagged soil
Comments (21)Back to Nature products are wonderful. Instead of the cow manure I buy the BTN chicken manure. It is a little more balanced in terms of NPK than the CM. But that's just my personal preference, I had always used the Black Kow, but a lady in Mississippi changed my mind a few years ago and I started using the CM. One thing I don't have to worry about by using the BTN products is that they are very, very well composted and I've never had any plant burn. I have found a wholesale plant products place here in the OKC area that I buy from now. They sold retail to me cuz I only buy small amounts from them, and they have products that you don't find on the shelves in the big box stores and even some of the Farmer's feed and seed stores. I switched to Al's 5:1:1 potting mix this summer and could not find my pine bark fines anywhere. Finally found them at this place for about $4 for 3 cubic feet, But, they also carry potting mixes like Metro Mix, soil conditioners like Turface, fertilizers, greenhouse materials, pots, and so much more at wholesale prices that fit into a gardener's budget with room to spare. Next year I plan to get my perlite and peat moss bulk from them, too. I can get the larger grade perlite that I really want. Susan...See Morewestes Zone 9b California SF Bay
