I think I picked up my last ones at Walgreen's for $.50 apiece so bought a couple packs of them. I only use them for certain waste because we have to buy a sticker from the city for over $1 and put on the bag or they won't take them. We have two free months, so I'm saving up what I have and will put it out in October or whenever it is.

I save my leaves for mulch or just leave them be except where they pile up too heavily.

I've bought them at Menard's for $6.00. I'm guessing Lowe's and Home Depot probably also have them. At Menard's they are not with the gardening supplies but near the garbage bags.

hostaholic, did you look at the photo on the link? i just can't see these bags at a box store.....
If you bought THESE bags at menard's, I will pursue that lead.

I've used Fiskars for years, collapses for storage, will last several years if you don't fill it with things that make it too heavy to lift, which in turn causes you to drag it down the driveway on cement....I find that hard on the bag bottom over time :)

Home Depot used to carry them but not in the last two years here. Target usually has them in season but holiday decorations will take the place of their gardening section soon. No shipping fee an option Amazon.

Mindy, I'm not sure if you want to stick with that exact bag, but the bag (or very similar one) that Morz8 has a link to I've found in the past at the Christmas Tree Shops in Nashua, NH for about $5. Mine lasted a couple of seasons and I used it very heavily.

About five or six years I found something very similar at Sears Hardware for $5 a piece. The only real difference is that there is no bottom handle. I couldn't believe the price and bought two. I wish I had bought more. One disappeared on me (I have no idea where it went to!) and the other is starting to get some holes in the bottom of it (from dragging it on the driveway, lol!) But after five years of some serious, heavy-duty use, it's definitely still usable.

I went to Sears this summer to find more and didn't see any. That's why I wish I had bought more the first time. But perhaps a Sears Hardware near you may have them?

I use that exact bag from Gardener's Supply, I've had mine for well over a decade (I have the large size).

I'm with you - somehow I can't imagine a box store carrying these...

Sorry, though, don't know where to get them less expensively than Gardener's Supply.

No, they don't have the lovely colored handles, and they probably are not the same bag, however I have had my first one for six years, the bottom is showing wear, a couple of small holes from dragging it. However for the price difference I can buy several of these. I do apologize for attempting to save you money. I thought that was your intent in posting a query. I'll try not to make that mistake again.

hostaholic, did i say something to offend you? I certainly didn't mean to. I was just asking if the bags you found were pretty much the same as what i am looking for. i didn't mean to say anything against box stores; i just didn't think it was likely that they would carry this product.but I would be thrilled if they did!!

i don't care about lovely colored handles-i just need it to be at least 31" diameter,preferably green, with handles.
is yours like that?i tried googling menard's but didn't find a product list to search. we don't have menard's in new eng.

a bit big for my needs but then again, i never met a large bag that wasn't useful......

anyway, plse tell me why they can't make these things GREEN instead of white . i mean after all, its world is the world of nature- dirt!

Uh, that thing is *too* big...certainly wouldn't be practical for my use, even with just leaves in it, would be a bear to drag around.

I had a similar bag that had lower sides and was wider, it had a side handle too and it was fabulous for weeding, easy to use from the ground. I weed sitting and crawling along the lawn and the side handles were great for pulling it along behind me. Taller bags are too hard to get get the weeds into from the ground, strains my arm too much.

Got it at a garden show and have never found the same bag again. It wore out after ten years. I miss it desperately. I did find one similar at Wal*Mart but it wore out after one year....and I've never seen another one there.

buyorsell, that sounds like the one for which i'm seeking a better price. did you see my link to the photo of the green bag? Also, if you look at the other link for that huge white bag- you'll see a smaller version. but none that i've found by doing a search for"woven poly lawn bags" has revealed one with a 31" circumference and lower height.

Yes Mindy, at the time I read your response I did find it offensive...perhaps as a result of being over-tired. Of course I looked at the bag in the link or I wouldn't have known that it was similar to my $6.00 bag. Mine is approx 2 ft tall and 36" across, dk. green woven poly with black nylon handles. It does not have the handle on the side. You have to insert the nylon spline in the top to hold it open, just like the one from Gardeners Supply.

hostaholic, that sounds exactly like mine, which I found at Sears Hardware. We don't have Menards around here, and it looks like they don't have mail order - or am I missing something? Boy, I really wish I had bought more than two of those bags....

I am just curious, what do you guys use these bags for? The only thing I can imagine using them for is dragging leaves to another part of the yard, but usually use those for mulch and just rake them into the beds.

I use mine mostly for weeding, but really for any kind of garden debris - pulled weeds, deadheading, trimmings, prunings, leaves/stems cut when cutting flowers for bouquets, bed clean-up debris, pieces of sod pulled up while edging, leaf clean-up... I even use it to carry newspapers or bags of shredded paper out to the garden if I'm making a lasagna bed, so it frees up a hand to carry other stuff, or to carry back to the garage empty plastic bags from mulch, manure, etc.

I never go out into the garden without my trusty bag! I'm starting to get concerned now that my last one is starting to wear. I may have to bite the bullet and pay the $25-$30 for one at the many on-line stores.

I use mine much as Dee does. I also help to maintain several beds with my garden club and our local Master Gardener Club and the bag always goes with me when I'm working at one of those beds.
Mindy, I don't believe Menard's offers mail order. I've also seen them at our local Runnings store which I think is a small MN chain. But I have heard from a friend that either Lowe's or Home Depot also carries them, sorry I can't remember which it was. I'm pretty sure Home Depot at least offers online ordering. You may want to check that route. The number for our local Menards is 320-587-0027 if you want to try that route.

along w the rest of you who depend on these bags, some of my fav things about them are:

they are MAJOR lightweight- like a feather- and because of this and their loosely formed structure, they can be set down anywhere, even temporarily on top of plants. they don't have a 'rigid' bottom, like the barrel form of them, so they can just be tossed on the ground and they will open up to receive your tossed debris (their wideness makes exact aim not so critical as it is with other clean-up receptacles.) i think i made up that word,'wideness'? 'Width' just wasn't a big enough word for me i guess.

Anyway, i am notorious for going out into the gardens unprepared; yanking out my snippies and willy nilly pruning away and tossing stuff on the ground. And in this perpetual cartoon, My Love is running up behind me and tossing down the clean- up bag! anyway, now that i'm actually starting to remember to grab one on my way out, we want more of them, so thus The Quest.

My old bag was shaped like an umbrella, it had "ribs" sewn into the nylon that held it open but it folded up tight. It was square but it was more like an upside down umbrella than the round shape pictured from Gardener's Supply.

I have a round bag like the medium one pictured and it just doesn't work as well for weeding from the ground. I use it for pruning when I am standing up and can drop the debris in but the sides are too tall for weeding from the ground.

I believe it was from England but it wasn't very expensive. There were two sizes in the package for about twenty bucks. I foolishly gave away the smaller size. I've looked at the same garden show every year and also at every garden center I go to including some in Vancouver and Victoria BC Canada, hoping they might have them from England.

Well, whadya know??!! We just returned from our annual trip for Vt. foliage glory, and there I found a much less expensive version of the english bags I was seeking!! These come from De Van Koek and are:

-green woven poly
-light as a feather(maybe not quite as heavy duty as the expensive British ones from Walter Nicke or Gardener's Supply)
-they open up into a loose cube, w/ 2 handles
- they don't have reinforced anything or a tie around the top edge
