Exterior Remodel Help Needed
Comments (1)Perhaps a decorative iron grille or piece of art. Something large in scale or a few medium sized ones. Ive seen the large iron grilles that look like windows or a cedar trellis to give that illusion....See MoreNeed help with exterior remodel to make house rustic
Comments (3)What is your budget? Do you need space in your living room or do you want to bump out because you think it will help curb appeal? I like the porch, I would keep it if you don't need the space. The house has good bones. Your fireplace facade is rustic so I would take your cues from that. I would paint your brick one of the mid tone grays from the fireplace and I think that will go with your roof. I would think about getting a new, more substantial front door and adding some door trim to go along with your new porch railing and columns. Greyish weathered cedar would make a nice looking porch. Chunky orangey cedar is going to be harder to pull off with the brick and the fireplace and the roof. Are you keeping the front landscaping? It looks good in the photo, just needs some trimming up....See MoreNeed help Exterior Remodel Ideas
Comments (18)I recommend that you check out what you can do to reveal the brickwork and stonework around your windows and setbacks. I don't know what can be scraped off, but I don't think ornamental shutters will look good on top of them. A fiberglass fabricator could probably embellish the columns in several ways, including providing squared off caps and footings Actually moving them needs to be checked out carefully for structure support, which I presume you know. I still don't favor moving the columns to create a wide opening. In the part of the world where I live (New England) a wide columned portico is almost an iconic logo for a senior living facility, as directional as the MacDonald's arch If it isn't so where you live, don't worry about it. I quite like the idea of creating a balcony, and for that money, I'd make it so I could use it, with double doors leading out to it and safe support underneath. (I think I'd skip the ground level railings and maybe increase the size of the oval window.) But it would be a good investment I think....See MoreExterior in dire need of upgrade but we remodeled kitchen/bath instead
Comments (10)Im always baffled why people fixate on little bits of red brick while not noticing how the other elements dont fit together. IMHO its the windows on house and goofy little archy window things on the garage door that are the odd ducks. The fake tudor timbers are fine on this house- like shutters on a modern house, they are just a decorative element and can create a kinda fun retro vibe... so then the question is, does it all hang together, is the design good.....I agree that on MANY ranch houses we see here the shutters and fake timbers arent well done at all, and are better off removed. But in this case - youve got the hipped rooflines which go with the english cottage/ tudor style and the fake timber design really does fit nicely above garage door and adds visual interest. I would: change the white walls/garage door to something more midtone to reduce the contrast, budget for new multipaned windows (or if window is new maybe grid inserts are available). Cant see the entry door - maybe change that too. Landscaping - loose flowering shrubs, not the geometric blobs. The idea is just to have fun with it, let it be the funky retro style it wants to be!...See More- 3 years ago
