Need help with exterior remodel to make house rustic

How can we update this home for it to look more rustic. This is a "Man" house, so all the frilly white porch trim needs to go. The house sits in the country, has barn on property. I have a vision of big CEDAR beams pillars...... The back/side entry has a brick/paver small patio.

.but what to do with the color of the brick/roof... Since the house has sort of a rectangle shape (plain shape) landscaping need to be done, has no sidewalk to the porch....trees?. Shall be bump out the living room (front of house) and extend into to porch?...which would eliminate the porch..

I agree on the frilly porch trim.

The house in this photo likely has brick bases on the posts, but the simplicity is nice. This is from an HGTV article, so if you do a web search for images of porch posts, you'll likely get the article. I don't know the Houzz rules for posting to HGTV.

What is your budget? Do you need space in your living room or do you want to bump out because you think it will help curb appeal? I like the porch, I would keep it if you don't need the space.

The house has good bones. Your fireplace facade is rustic so I would take your cues from that. I would paint your brick one of the mid tone grays from the fireplace and I think that will go with your roof. I would think about getting a new, more substantial front door and adding some door trim to go along with your new porch railing and columns.

Greyish weathered cedar would make a nice looking porch. Chunky orangey cedar is going to be harder to pull off with the brick and the fireplace and the roof.

Are you keeping the front landscaping? It looks good in the photo, just needs some trimming up.

Wow, thank you little bug for the quick response! We're in Missouri too! Yes, the tree was leaning toward the house so we had it cut down right after moving in. I agree that the driveway is too much. We are hoping its in the budget to remove a large portion of it and create a c-shaped driveway with a landscaped berm in the middle to add a little privacy from the road. It is a private road with only a few houses, so not too much traffic! Thanks for giving your opinion on the gable, that helps a lot! We do tend to hang out in the back because of the pretty view. That's part of the reason for the remodel, to orient the main rooms more toward the back. It's south facing in the back and has hardly any windows on that side. Living room is currently in front of house, and bedrooms/bathroom on back side... Thanks again!!

I think the faux Tudor look needs to go. Maybe just paint out the wood trim boards criss-crossing your stucco if you can't remove them. I would go for a sage green top and either a bright green front door or some other light and bright color. Add a light to the front door area so the door is visible. I can't see your walkway to the front door. I assume you have one. If you don't or if the walkway is thin/skinny, replace with a nice wide walkway at least 42-48 inches wide. Have a nice large (deep) planting bed all along the walkway. Something like this pic below. In fact, have a professional landscaping plan put together by a landscape designer - not the guys that maintain lawns, but someone that is a landscape designer by profession. An amazing amount of curb appeal comes from good landscaping. A good landscape designer also designs hardscape. Landscaping is the finishing touch for your home.

Is the sun on the front of the house a problem? I can see wanting a small portico or entry awning, but it's amazing how sleepy the house looked before and how awake it looks now. Regarding painted brick, I grew up in a house with white painted brick and no one ever complained about intolerable maintenance. The more unified front aspect could be a strong positive.

after the chimney is gone, widen the porch in that direction. replace narrow windows with a picture window or other large window centered on that side. if you could afford it bring that recessed area out with an addition so its even with the rest.

Thank you...never considered weathered cedar...Great idea... Bumping out the living room to enclose porch would be for "needed space" as oppose to curb appeal. We are still pondering about that.....I think the door direction of the door would then have to change too, facing the same way as the chimney, making just a smaller landing under the roof line.

Door would be replaced with a WOOD look door, with or without bump out (had another great help suggestion on that.) New roof needed, darker color for sure..
