Agonizing over this decision! Please help.
Comments (3)We have the Monogram 36" rangetop, 30" double convection oven with Pro handles and the 42" Monogram hood insert. We are happy with them.It did freak me out when we had company over and the hood turned itself on all by itself--turns out its a safety feature. If the range below gets too hot, it automatically turns on and runs until the temperature falls below the auto threshold. In it's defense, I was using 5-6 burners all at once and I probably should have turned it on myself long before. I really liked the Thermador rangetop look and the star shaped burners, but I couldn't handle the clicking the burners make on simmer (the burners cycle on and off continuously making an annoying clicking sound as they cycle.) Mom has a Thermador double oven that's 7 years old--they've already had to replace the control panel mother board and that was enough for me to take a chance on the Momogram. Like Dodge59 mentions above, most of us have multiple brands in our kitchens. While have Monogram for cooking, we have 2 KitchenAid DWs and a Kenmore Elite badged Samsung refrigerator. Hope this helps!...See MoreTo speed oven, or not speed oven; THAT is the question
Comments (11)First of all, left-over food does not taste as good after MW-ing compared to warming it up on the stove or in the oven. IDK about nutritional value research but a friend of mine once did an experiment. What happens if you leave a baked or boiled potato on your counter *indefinitely*? It will spoil, will it not? He left a potato cooked in a MW on the counter. The potato did not spoil but disintegrated and he watched it to turn into small black pieces that were not rotten, just weird. Can anyone here interpret this fact? Does it mean that MW changes food structure? Anyway, I never cook in MW and only use it for reheating and - rarely - for defrosting food. I am now curious and I am going to repeat his experiment but this time, using a regular boiled potato as a "control", i.e., I'll leave two potatoes, one boiled and one MW'd, unrefrigerated and see what happens. I just need to get some conventionally grown potatoes as I'd feel sorry to do it with my expensive organic ones, LOL....See MoreMonogram oven and Advantium or Electrolux oven and speed oven
Comments (26)Don't like the knob? That's funny. I love the knob. It almost always does what I expect it to. I hit the quick microwave button: 30 seconds on the time and it turns on. I can flick the knob to add or subtract time on the clock any time before it finishes. (Peek inside. "5" "4" Hmm, not bubbling yet. Spin knob. "3" "4,5,6,7,8,9,10" "9" "8") So handy! I'm making grilled cheese sandwiches (which the Advantium does perfectly), Press "speedcook." spin dial to "sandwiches" and push dial to select. Spin to "cheese" and press. Spin to "1-2 sandwiches" and press. Press one last time to start. Easy, obvious, and soooo much better that poking at those gawdawful membrane buttons that most machines use. Set the timer? Press the 'timer" button. Spin knob to number of minutes, and press. Spin knob for seconds. Press. I can flick the edge of the knob and zing! I've got 40+ seconds dialed in, in a flash. Holding down an "up" button and waiting for the seconds to count up is awful by comparison....See MoreConvection steam oven coupled with speed oven but no large oven??
Comments (6)If you type “Combi Steam Speed no other oven” in the search box in Discussions/Appliances you will get many threads on this topic. The down side I would see is not all of your larger pans such as half sheet/cookie/large roasters/pizza stones/etc may fit in either oven. In the case of miele the speed and combi steam ovens max out at 435 degrees and the broiler is not as strong as a full size oven. It could also be an issue down the road for resell as the cabinets would need significant rework to incorporate a traditional 30” oven. That may or may not be an issue for you. The cleaning aspect is another consideration as self clean may not be an option. (I use self clean on my miele Convection oven - 5+ years and no problems). I was fortunate to be able to include a 30” wall/combi steam/speed (all Miele) in my kitchen. If I had a choice I would have nixed the speed and found a place to house an inexpensive microwave hidden either in a cabinet or my walk in pantry (I still have my old toaster oven there and use it occasionally). Since I have a combi steam and induction - I rarely I use my micro....See Morewdccruise
