Most of us have been through this decision! It really isn't so much the outside measurements as it is the inside layout that will help determine if the fridge is a good fit for you. The different brands really are not laid out the same. I took measurements and some dishes that I normally use in m fridge to check them out.... I would have purchased a fridge that would not have worked well for me if I hadn't. The GE CD has very shallow and narrow veggie drawers and did not hold a stalk of celery. Some of the others do not have an adjustable shelf to make room for very tall items. The deli drawers on some are split, making them very small. There are some with ice in the door and some with ice in the fridge compartment. Your smart to go looking, but take a few items with you and be sure to take your own measurements.

The fact that you want the wall to look as if it is all cabinets tells me that you want "full integrated", not built-in. Subzero makes semi integrated look with their built in but you see the door slightly and the grill cover above the frig. The best place to look at the options is the Subzero web site. They show you how the integrated and built ins look. One of the big difference is where the air intake grill is. The built ins are at the top which are often covered with panels. The integrated frigs have the grills at the bottom behind the door with a small gap that lets the air flow around it. When the door is closed, you see nothing. The frig is designed so that the bottom of the door is at the same level as all the other cabinets next to it with the toe kick where you should see the standard toe kick. If you think about it, it makes sense that the gill cover at the top is what gives it away. There is nothing else that can be up there (above 7ft) except the grill cover for the frig and it is a dead give away that it is a frig. Either you don't care or you do. The Liebherr has the toe kick vent so there are air vents cut into the grill, which makes it a not a "true integrated" Small difference but these things make a difference in the look AND if you know what to look for, it jumps out at you. Mieles and Boschs are integrated, not built-ins. The do not make a line where the grill cover is at the top. Thermador makes built-in line and integrated line. Subzero makes both also. There are people that want the look of the SZ built-in so that it "showcases" that there is a SZ there. (This probably helps with resale more than the integrated since more people know what SZ is but not what it takes to do the full integration.) There are people that go the extra mile to make sure that it is fully integrated. Do the research and see what you want. Good luck.

You won't fit much on a 4-6" shelf. Maybe Knickknacks or a bud vase...but I can't imagine it holding pretty serving bowls. I would keep the 10 1/2" depth.

Hi Juno - from what I've learned, it really depends on how big the shelf needs to be and how much weight you'll be putting on it. If its just a few tchotchkes then you should be fine with an "off the shelf" shelf and mounting hardware. There are quite a few places that sell these kinds of shelves, link below. You can also build the shelves yourself with a little elbow grease - google "torsion box shelves" for instructions. That seems to be the popular choice and would give you a lightweight alternative. Also look up "french cleat" for mounting hardware - that also seems to be a popular way to attach them. If you do decide to go with solid wood, that Hafele hardware at the top of the page is for solid shelves and would provide the invisible support you're probably looking for. They have an option for masonry installation and it looks like they come with pretty detailed instructions. We're going to have to DIY the hardware for ours because our shelves will be so deep and long and I want triple assurance the things won't pull off the wall when I load them up. I placed an order yesterday with a local saw mill - they're going to give us ripped and planed boards to glue together ourselves, and then we'll take them back so they can plane them again to the correct thickness and clean up the ends. I'll sand and stain them myself, and then according to ctycdm's instructions above we'll affix them to the walls. Hope this helps!
