My windows and gutters are black and I am going with black garage doors after I saw them on another house. It just looks stunning.

Garage doors should be a medium dark grey. Meaning the same color as the house color. Garage doors are NOT a feature. Don't make them one.

Consider where you live. I’m in the country where dust and dirt are just a fact if life. A neighbor painted garage doors black and they look like a chalkboard with light colored dust/sand showing up more than it would on a lighter background.

If your garage doors are visible from the front of the house ( i.e., a snout garage), do everything possible to downplay the doors and not make any more of a focal point than they already are.

The problem with front facing garages and garage doors is that they tend to be the single largest element on the front of the house. That means that they dominate the view of the front of the house. If this is the case, then matching the door color and texture to that of the house siding is the best way to downplay the doors and reduce their impact.

A better scheme is to have the garage doors located on the side of the house and not visible from the front or the approach to the house.

If your garage doors are front facing then you need to allocate enough budget that is proportional to the space they occupy in your front facade.

When we bought our house, with front facing garages, they were really cheap garage doors painted brown. It is a Spanish style house with brown trim and wood accents. We had custom wood garage doors made that matched the stained wood front door. It changed the look of the house and we had people stop and tell us how amazing it looked after that one change. The garage doors need to be a part of the whole look. (ps. house is in CA so real wood front door and garage doors are appropriate for the climate)
