Boston area garden centers: Weston v Mahoney's v Russell's.
Comments (21)This thread is 9 years old, and some things have changed. I rarely buy at Weston any more, but they are a distance from me and I would usually go there for their trees and shrubs which I haven't planted many of in recent years. They are very expensive, but if I needed a tree, I'd probably wait for a good sale. I might be looking for a Rhododendron soon and I'd go there, it is their specialty. I've become more likely to go to Russell's for everything I need, because they have everything and they do organic and offer organic seedlings in the spring and organic supplies. Not everyone does. Their perennial section is extensive and well organized. I find trees and shrubs a small selection. Annuals - I don't buy many of, and theirs are expensive. I buy bagged goods there all the time. Mahoney's seems to have improved but I still find the only thing I've gone there for is their bagged mulch. And I'm thinking of switching to Russell's because it's just as good and less expensive. Mahoney's seems to have upgraded their florist section and offer what looks like very pretty arrangements, but I haven't bought any so I can't say if you get what you order. And I haven't bought from them because they upgraded their prices and priced me out. I am disappointed with McCue's. They are a good family run business, and I still stop in there, but I find I am buying less and less. They don't carry organic products. Not even Coast of Maine Compost. I did buy potted bulbs and pansies this spring, but I have resolved not to buy their pansies again, because the 6 pack they use attaches all the cells at the top inch so I have to rip them all apart and they are nothing but roots. Garden in the Woods - I haven't bought anything there in awhile, but my past experiences were very positive. I haven't been to Wilson's in a long time because they expanded their food to go department at the expense of their nursery. I had the same experience at Stonegate with the potted trees. I bought one on sale that was so potbound, it didn't make it. They refunded part of my money. That was my last purchase there....See Morehow to find a kitchen design center
Comments (2)cmm 1964: I just got a referral from a very nice showroom in Naples, but I'll be danged if I can recall their name, although I could drive you right there. They're on the east side of 41 in the shopping center and the cross street takes you into a fancy development that starts with a "P"....See MoreKitchen Design Help: Does my kitchen look boring?
Comments (14)Tile, Here's a suggestion for a layout. What I've tried to accomplish: * an open, airy feeling created by storage mostly below the waist and avoiding bulky items around windows/doors/openings * sink and island prep areas allow window views * friendly seating area provided by 15" countertop overhang * min. 36" clearances (OK according to Sarah Richardson kitchen designer) * use mostly drawers - the IKEA ones are super practical for almost everything * replace the corner unit with the 37x37 one, which is generally considered more functional, especially if you put in 32" super susans (mine holds all my pots *and* small appliances) * suggest a smaller, cuter fridge that is more appropriate to the scale of your kitchen - the layout below shows the 28" wide IKEA one, or you could use this adorable model: e.g. Northstar Model 1950 in buttercup (29.5" wide) * put microwave on a shelf below the counter in the island * I would not clutter up your walls with upper cabinets - minimal open shelving for decorative and frequently used items cabinets below are: 1=37" corner, 2=18" drawers, 3=30" sink, 4=edited-dishwasher, 5=24" wide+12" deep, 6=18" wide+12" deep, 7=24" drawers, 8=36" wide - put microwave here, 9=18" drawers This post was edited by feisty68 on Thu, Apr 10, 14 at 14:41...See MoreNeed kitchen designer Boston North
Comments (11)Are you looking for someone to help you make purchases and/or hook you up with specific vendors? Someone to make recommendations that are pure aesthetic design? Someone to recommend re-configurations? A "project manager"? I ask because we just finished a "refresh" (I posted a reveal thread), and we basically hired a contactor to actually do the work, but we made all of the aesthetic decisions and orders ourselves. I probably would have wanted a dedicated KD if we had gutted the whole kitchen, but since we were just refreshing, I wasn't sure what their real role would be....See MoreJoshua Alan Interiors
