How do you to clean stubborn marks off a wall?

Hello, I have recently started renting and every little thing seems to leave a mark on the cream wall. About a month ago we used a fly swap and even that left a stain on the wall. So we have the fly swap mark, and marks on the wall from where our coats have lent on it while on the coat rack. I think these are oil stains? Though I am not positive as I'm not sure why coats would have oil on them.

I have tried fairy liquid, vinegar, bicarbonate of soda, magic eraser, cornflour, toothpaste and flour. Nothing has had any luck, and the vinegar, magic eraser and bicarbonate led to some of the paint coming off. I'm running out of ideas to try. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I don't think any of the above had any impact, but I'm not sure if I should just be persistent and keep trying with them. Though I do worry about the paint coming off.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Have you tried a little Dawn dish soap with smidge of cold water or a sanitizer wipe?

Thank you for the advice. I just tried those methods and doesn't seem to have had an impact, but I will continue trying thse methods throughout the day to see if persistence helps.

I have a 3 y/o and matte paint. I'm perpetually familiar with the oiled handprints that are all over my walls. I use a barely damp microfiber cloth (half damp, half dry). Rub the damp part over the marks just once or twice, then rub with the dry part. I've found that by rubbing with the dry, and sort of feathering out the moisture, I can avoid a lot of the "swirl" marks that water can leave on the paint. That takes care of almost everything. If something is left that isn't fixed that way, I usually just touch up the paint. One of the perks of matte paint.

How do you get brown marks off glass door hinges?

Where my glass door hinges meet the marble threshold (to the shower) we have brown marks. We have hard water but have a water softener. This doesn't seem to be happening inside the shower, but rather around the outside of the shower where the polished nickel hinges holding up the glass enclose (and door) meet the marble threshold. Any ideas how to clean this off? Obviously with marble we are more limited in what we can use (no vinegar, for example). Please help - it looks awful!

It's just like any other solid material (plastic, glass, marble, ...). If it works, then it's fine to clean it that way. It can be damaged by cleaning agents. But it does take something reasonably aggressive to do so. For what it's worth, you can even clean it with water (e.g. a damp cloth) as long as you don't get any electrical parts wet. It's not as if salt dissolved very easily unless you grind it into tiny crystals or used hot solvent. A little bit of dampness isn't going to do anything. When you think about your lamp, don't think "cotton candy", instead think "block of marble". That'll give you a better sense of what you can use for cleaning.

If it's orange slime (and it looks like there is some on the curtain), then it is the bacteria Serratia marcescens. Clean it with a bleach-based cleaner.

Do you have any extra paint? In the end I did that to makes on my walls and it came out perfect. Just get a little roller to use

Unfortunately not, though that would be a great idea if we did! It is rented accommodation and didn't have spare paint
