I don't order groceries, but when buying groceries, where I don't check my own, I have often arrived home, missing items. One time I arrived home with a men's body building magazine. I prefer checking and bagging my own groceries, and always do it when that option is available.

Yes and it was also a glitch @ Walmart. I wound up with a completely new order at no charge!

I have come home and when I get the groceries from the trunk, they aren't there!

Our store bags for you and has a lock up lane, and a fellow who puts them in your car. When I got to my car, I drove home without stopping by the loading area. Fortunately, when I called they had already brought my cart in and put the cold stuff in a cooler to wait for me.

Freebees are always a nice surprise, but last week we placed 6 baking potatoes in one of their twist'tie bags to take up to check out (.88/lb) but when we got home found that the cashier rang them up as Yukon Golds at 1.79/lb. Arrrrg.

One time I had a pretty big order which included corn chips.

Thankfully, before I left for home, I got out to retrieve the chips from the boot so they wouldn't get crushed.

There were no chips. I had half my order and half of someone else's.

It was a bit aggravating getting it sorted out but it would have been far more aggravating if I had driven home and discovered the mix up.

I guess everyone goofs. My neighbor just yelled at me while I was mowing to give me my "delivered by Amazon" package. They usually get it right too but not this time.

My first thought was that I was charged for it. I’m curious how it works. Someone shops for you, then it has to checked out to get a receipt, how do you wind up with other things?

eld - My son works at WM part time while in college. He fills the online grocery orders. They are usually shopping for 2-4 orders at a time using a big cart with multiple bins. They scan the item and then put it in the bin for that order. If they scan an item and put it in the wrong bin then the wrong person will be getting that item but the person that ordered it will still be paying for it. They don't check out the order again after the shopping is complete.

Eld, for me, I think what happened is the shopper didn't keep my order completely separate and put a few bags from someone else's order in mine. they ofter deliver more than one order at a time.

If they have in-store shoppers, rather than warehouse pickers, they usually have a regular grocery cart or two with bags into which they put the shopping. Sometimes they'll do a couple orders at once. Most of the time, they're accurate, but sometimes they can get mixed up, or a random customer could put items in thinking it was go-backs or not thinking at all. It probably isn't worth the labor expense to recheck all orders after they've been picked, and they may be using hand scanners or phones to check out while they're picking.

I've also had my groceries delivered four doors down, complete with the proof of delivery photo. But most of the time they get it right. :) Unless the items are very expensive indeed, returning them (not even going into virus protocols) costs the company too much, as does simply charging you for them. Plus, it's better customer relations to just tell you to keep them.

I ordered stuff that didn't end up in my house. Maybe it went to someone else?

I use Instacart to order from Publix. They often have BOGOs - buy one get one free. So I shop those items often. Last week I got BOGO BOGO, but not charged. I got 4 boxes of Cheerios, 4 cans of nuts, 4 mini bags of donuts, 4 gallons of iced tea and 4 pounds of butter! Posted for free on a family Groupme site - back down to normal quantities now :)

Took me two months to find someone to give a mis-delivered huge bottle of fabric softener. It showed up as a single item on my front porch in a Walmart bag.

Have received unordered items in grocery deliveries. Have also been missing items. Usually all is well.

I should also mention that often there will be 2 or 3 different employees filling an order. One will be doing dry goods, another doing produce, and a third doing any cooler and frozen items. All of the bins are placed in the back OGP area until pickup time when an employee gathers all of the order to take out to the customer's car. They have to gather the order from 3 different places (shelf for dry good, walk in freezer, and walk in cooler).

Since all of Lucille's extra items were all produce then it may be that the employee gathering the order and bagging it may have made the mistake when assembling.

I haven't done pick up or delivery, but one of my friends did pick up at Walmart last week. She ended up with five canisters of coffee creamer that she didn't order. She has no use for it so she took it to work. It was a lot of coffee creamer.

The last time I had a grocery order I inadvertently gave someone extra frozen veggies. It was the first time that the delivery people had two orders picked up at the same time. One of the bags slide to the other side. They asked me if they were mine but I only remembered ordering two bags of peas. There was a bag of corn in the bag so I said it was not mine. When I checked the order I saw that I had ordered a bag of corn. I do hope the other person just enjoyed the veggies. If returned to the store by the state law they have to be put into the trash something that my store does follow. No I did not notify the store because I considered it my fault.

I suggested that the delivery people keep a box large enough to put an order to prevent sliding.

They all seem to do this service a bit different. In-house shoppers for curbside. Instacart for delivery?. I rarely have a perfect delivery. Something extra, something missing. Double avocados this morning....that means I now have about 30, 😳. Neighbors will be happy. A dozen eggs were smashed flat, all broken. (carton in a bag thankfully). Other dozen is fine.

I just did AmazonPrime WholeFoods for the first time. Possibly the most efficient. Clearly from a warehouse distribution nearby. Not shopped at one of their groceries. Less handling and very fresh. The bags are coded, One of 5, two of 5, etc. Arrived in an Amazon van within a few hours from ordering. No wonky plastic bags that roll around in someones car/trunk to get mixed up.

After a zombie Apocalypses experience yesterday getting my first vaccine, I have no interest in shopping in person anytime soon. Everyone masked and properly, most double masked, and some with face shields. Thankfully the nurse was efficient and zippy.

Edited to add...this is a Walgreens I've never been to. I was mistaken the location but they had appointments. People were walking around in a slow state of wonder. Staring at product. Way more people in the pharmacy than necessary.

All my deliveries are from distribution warehouses, not grocery stores. Except for my one Costco Instacart. He was excellent and in contact by text. That was a TP need. (I heard we might have another shortage).

We placed order for the three weeks were would be at vacation house. When we went to pick it up the person who's would load it in the cars said Can i ask you something did you really order 30 bags of Scoops or did our picker screw it up ?

there were 30 all ready bagged . We weren't being charged for them but were asked multiple times are you sure you don't want some of them they will be free.

Not groceries, but I did get black pearl earrings free. My husband ordered me a necklace from a jewelry store in NYC. They sent me the necklace and told me to keep the earring.

One time I was charged for 100 cantaloupes instead of one. What’s funny is, I didn’t notice it until I got home and started thinking the small,order sure cost a lot. Had a laugh when I looked at the receipt. Of course, the store reimbureset me and we all had a good,laugh. I’ve also found things in my bag that belonged to the person ahead of me in line, but I was charged. In each case, I just kept it.
