36' vs. 30' bosch 800 series induction question
Comments (7)Hi. We installed a 36" 800 Bosch in November. The cost to upgrade our service from 40 to 50 amps was $450 - BUT that included the electrician putting in one new outlet in the kitchen plus installing a ceiling light fixture in the family room (both were run from existing outlets). His estimate for putting in the 50 amp line & breaker originally was $500, but it ended up to be less -- always a plus! We went for the 36" because we did just what others have suggested here: consider how we cook and what and how many burners we use frequently. We discovered that we often use three burners at a time (pasta boiling in one pot, sauce being prepared in another -- often a skillet -- and veggies cooking in a third). So we wanted some room to do that and the right sized burners to match the pans we use. Also, since we were going to use a downdraft (again) instead of a hood, we wanted at least one of the larger burners near the back. Additionally we liked that the Bosch had only one of the small 6.5" hobs -- some brands had two. That's a hob we knew we wouldn't use much. All in all, we have been very pleased with our choice. Oh, yes, we did have to cut back the cabinet sides a bit. BUT, since prior to this cooktop, we had a 36" Thermador radiant cooktop, the cabinet had already been cut. It's lasted for 14 years with no problem. We expect to get 14 yrs from this one!...See Moregas cooktop: DCS vs. Electrolux vs Bosch vs???
Comments (5)i have the 36" DCS drop in gas cooktop-- have had it for ~ 5-6yrs. we could not easily put in a hood above our island cooktop (existing- we just replaced cooktop) so we put in a dcs pop-up fan- just needed to get the granite cut to fit it since the cooktop that was there was a jennair down draft... i love the cooktop--- has worked without any issues since we got it and simmers extremely well. i chose it because i liked it's appearance best when compared to similarly priced 36" cooktops!! (i specifically liked the grates better than the kitchenaid and bosch, which is the 3 i narrowed it down to.) the fan is just fair,(better than the downdraft tho!) but i don't do alot of frying at high temps which might result in alot of smoke or grease....See MoreBosch 300 vs 500 Plus
Comments (1)IIRC, the 300 does NOT have the heater... I personally feel this is a very important feature... I have a 2 yo 500 series (before the 'plus') I'd easily buy the same machine again.......See MoreBosch 800 vs 800 plus
Comments (3)iMHO The Bosch DW water softener is definitely worth additional $300 it if you have hard water. There are some reports that rinse aid is hazardous to the environment. If you dislike using rinsed aid, you can rely more on your water softener to dry dishes faster and spot free. Just dial back the rinse aid to the lowest setting and the water softener should prevent hard water spots and etching. Soft water seems to dry a little better, too. Rinse aid is about $10 for 23 ounces and you can save a little rinse aid to offset the cost of the water softener over the life of the machine. You will need to buy special “dishwasher salt” for the softener though. I’ve recently learned that the 800 plus has been discontinued, though....See Morewdccruise
