Need advice for Octagon and Dot tile grout!
Comments (24)Bill, You have been so helpful. This is a true tile job that has been a disaster. First, the wrong tile was installed in February (after being told before it started). Second, the thinset was not removed from the first job and the floor cracked all underneath the tile laid again in March. The correction to the second job did not come until July. They could not fit us into their schedule. They did not use the grout requested by us, refused to put in the expansion joint when questioned and said it did not need one. Lastly, the grout dried completely uneven in color, not to mention being poorly laid out in the division of lines. A salesman came to look at the job today and said they would grout on top of the tile. Is that normal? I am so sick of this project!!! We have been without this second bath except for a sink since Februrary 3rd. Surely this can not be normal for a tile job. Strangely, they act like everything is normal. I feel like we need to get someone out to look at this job before we accept what has been done. However, it is apparent they are incapable of doing a normal tile job....See MoreWhite subway tile backsplash. What color grout? Black? White?
Comments (27)I have the Subway Ceramics Avalon / Minas with a medium gray grout. And a Shaw's white sink, if anyone is considering that, by the way. (My contractor could have ordered it directly, but at his request, I went through a tile store, and by the time everyone had put their sugar onto it, it was OBSCENELY expensive.) I'm not an installation expert, but at least with the Subway Ceramics, the installers use little plastic spacers between the tiles (I think some others have their own spacers?) when they put them up, they don't do it freehand, so how much grout you get is a function of 1) the limits set by the curvature of the tile and 2) what size spacers they use. So you might be willing to go a little darker with a smaller grout line, or with a handmade tile that refuses to go close together, you might want to stay light. The traditional color is close to concrete. But most modern people don't seem to like that, so do what pleases you!...See MoreRequesting advice on bathroom
Comments (2)I cannot really see the color of the grout in the shower.... but maybe paint the walls the same color as the grout. Also paint your vanity the same color as the shower tiles. That will add some continuity....See MoreCloe White tile in shower and grey vanity.... need floor advice?
Comments (4)IO the hair is thre and I would rather see it but as for the florof the shower or the bathroom floor which are you asking about.I do not like ceramic tile and I also do not like subway tile for shower walls since the more grout lines the harder to keep clean if you have not bought any tile yet My choice is 12 x24 porcelain tile for the bathroom floor and the the shower walls if you really love the Cloe use it for a vertcal stripe in the shower and the vanity backsplash and use a smaller same color porcelian tile for the shower floor . You could use a porcelain tile that looks like cararra marble if you want a bit of glamour....See MoreD H
