Need Advice on GE Front Load Washing Machine?
Comments (3)Hello! I have not heard much on these GE FL models, but what I have heard seems to be mixed reviews. As for the Samsung VRT, I have heard wonderful things about them. Of course, I am not going by my own experience while critiquing these machines because I have no experience with them. I'm just going by what I've heard from this forum and elsewhere. Hopefully others that own these machines will chime in (sounds like some GE owners already did in the other thread). Anyhoo, as for the Maytag Bravos, my family and I bought one of these washers for my grandmother and she just LOVES it!! It holds a TON of clothes and washes and rinses them beautifully! However, I have heard mixed reviews of the Bravos MTW6600 model, which my grandmother has (but as I said she loves hers). The Bravos MTW6700 seems to get much more positive reviews since it is basically a tweaked version of the MTW6600 with a redesigned impeller. I've noticed based on reviews and experiences shared on this forum that with the MTW6600 model you have to load clothes into it carefully (drop each piece of clothing in one by one in a heap around the center of the impeller, not on top of the center of it) in order to not get the tangling some have reported, which seems to be a big contributor to the more negative reviews. Maybe the MTW6700 solved that problem and you do not have to load clothes in it so particularly. Not sure. Just my 2 cents. Hope this helps! Let us know what you decide to purchase! Good luck! :o) Here is a link that might be useful: Maytag Bravos MTW6700...See MoreFront loading vs Top loading washing machine
Comments (11)I agree with Cynic. It really depends on your needs. Make a list of your personal needs by priority and go from there. I went from a TL to a FL but that is beacuse my number one priority at the time was the water rates went up so high here it was getting to the point I couldn't afford to wash my clothes. My water bill was cut in half and the FL paid for itself in savings within 10 months. Some of the basic advantages and disadvantages I noticed are as follows: Advantages of my TL 1) My TL rinsed way better than my FL. 2) It was way easier to find detergents for my TL than my FL. 3) The water temperatures on my TL worked way better than the ones on my FL. 4) The wash cycles were faster so I was able to catch up on laundry quicker. 5) No mold issues. Advantages of my FL 1) Saving a lot of money on water use. 2) Can do much larger loads, even comforters. 3) Gentler on my clothes. Our clothes have been lasting much longer. 4) Spins more water out of laundry lessening drying time in my dryer which is saving me on electricty when I have to use my dryer. 5) Stainless steel drum so no more rust spots. (drum in my TL had a nick in the porcelin coating so I ended up with rust spots on several articles of clotheing.) As far as servicing, they are kinda running neck and neck on that one. Both had to be serviced multiple times when I first got both, but the TL only lasted 2 years. It was really inexpensive when I got it so it served it's purpose, and the replacement parts were dirt cheap so it made it easy for do it yourself repair. My FL is covered under warranty, but most of the stuff that has gone wrong with it has been relatively inexpensive parts wise and the inside is so basic it looks very fixable for an owner to do oneself. Cleaning performance? They are neck and neck. Neither one was/is fantastic, and neither was/is horrible. Both did/do the job well enough. For reference, my TL was a low end, real basic Kenmore. My FL is what you would class as a low end, real basic Frigidaire Affnity....See MoreNew Washing Machine - Top Load Impeller VS Agitator
Comments (29)I ran some bedding yesterday in my HE toploader. It has a specific Sheets cycle but I don't like it so much for 1) agitation being at Delicate speed (to minimize tangling) and 2) fill being a fixed high level regardless of the load size. I instead use Bulky - Blanket (it has several Bulky cycles), which runs a deep fill but senses it to a varying level based on the load, a stronger agitation profile than Sheets, and includes a 30-min soak period during the wash. Wash temperature is fixed (can't be changed) at Warm which is 122°F input. Usually for a twin bed on which I use a cotton/synthetic blend quilted bedspread as a comforter I run the sheets and bedspread together. This time I ran the sheets separately to check what it did for the fill level ... which was IMO higher than necessary in order to get some "float" but the wash action was very good. Running the bedspread on the Bulky - Blanket cycle without the sheets (although I did add a lightweight throw-blanket) resulted in it getting rolled into a ball (although it did rollover several times) which does not happen when the sheets are done with it....See MoreFront Load Washer vs Top Load
Comments (16)linda918, In answer to your original question of whether a Speed Queen FL or an Electrolux FL, I would choose a SQ FL in a second. The reason being I had 2 different Fridgidaire FL washers over the span of 12 years. Fridgidaire is owned and made by Electrolux. The first of the two was forever in break down mode. The amount of $$ I spent at laundromats could have gotten us 3/4 of the way to a new washer. It would 6-8 weeks from a call for repair to having a poorly, barely functioning washing machine again. Fridgidaire would rather rebuild the whole darn washer seven times than issue a lemon refund or a replacement. 2nd Fridgidaire FL washer was more reliable. Lasted 8 years, but we never once had clean and fresh laundry with either washer. Our clothes stunk. Our towels stunk. Our sheets stunk and my formerly always pristine and fresh cleaning rags and napkins were filthy, looking and smelling. I only washed on hot or warm, using extra rinses and highest soil settings with top shelf detergent. Pieces of garbage. If I had to go FL washer today (I have a Speed Queen TL washer for several years now), I would choose Speed Queen or Miele. Both will cost you dearly, but your cleaning results will be good. LG makes good FL washers too but I have space restrictions that most do not. If you do choose LG, get a model that has an internal heater (not all do) so you can have the higher temps needed to do sanitize cycles for sheets, towels, socks and underwear. Good luck with your decision!...See Moregailmz
