I'd love input/feedback. We really need to replace the chairs, DH has fixed them many times but has told me that if I don't get replacements he will.

It's been difficult to find chairs with the same dimensions as what we have is somewhat small in scale.

This may not help but i would never purchase dining chairs without siting in them first, so I hope you have done that. If your area is still in lockdown keep the crappy chairs you have for a little while longer.

To your actual question, I always prefer padded!

I'm calling a showroom this week to see if they have any chairs from this manufacturer to try. Since the dimensions are virtually the same as our old chairs wouldn't they sit about the same?

Otherwise DH suggested we order two and then decide whether or not to get the rest.

And regarding padded... My family all seems to prefer padded as well so rather then overthink on this I'm leaning toward going majority rules on that decision. Thanks for helping make that an easy decision!

I'm also a small person (they say I'm petite..not true as I' m 5.4 but whatever)..height definitely plays role. I don't want to look like a dwarf at my own table either..or be dangling my legs on a sofa, or whatever..

The manufacturer for these chairs I'm considering is Gat Creek Furniture; from everything I've been able to tell they will be a superior product to the original chairs.

With the original chairs, one completely broke and had to be thrown out within a couple years of purchase. All of them have needed reinforcement over the years... These days they all wobble and the joints have to be squeezed back together every few weeks.

That said, April I agree. The showroom is listed as an authorized vendor for these chairs so I hope they will have at least something that I can test out.
