It really depends on the style you're going for, as well as where your personal taste falls within that style. Less detail can be slick and contemporary, or less detail within a traditional style can lean towards modern but still be traditional. Or outright you might want a more traditional look, with more detail, more shadow lines, etc. I lean towards traditional, and I live in an area (New England) where it's embraced. I'd lean towards a baseboard. But that's me. Do a mock-up, look at photos, see what your eye prefers. If baths with a baseboard look distracting or cluttered, that may lead you one way. If they look just perfect to you, that may help guide you. In the end, it's your house. Your bathroom.

So, as several people have said, you don't use grout at the tub or floor/wall junction. That end wall tile around the rounded edge is really bad. They used a dull bit to cut (nibble) and it looks really amateurish. It's not really clear what's going on with the edge, but it doesn't look like a properly finished edge (with a bull-nose tile). There's obvious grout / adhesive left on the surface. I think they used sanded grout - and that's why it's so rough and not filling the voids properly. My guess... is that the overall issue is that these folks didn't know what they were doing -- which is likely a bigger problem than just the cosmetic issues. I think you will find problems with the waterproofing under the tile also.

I am planning out my bathroom remodel right now. I have settled on Lifeproof scratch stone LVP as this is the same flooring I am using through the entire house. I do like the look of large format floor to ceiling tile in the bathroom, but as this room is smallish and odd shaped with 2 outside corners, the larger tiles are kind of out of the questions for me. I am not looking at smaller, 12x12 and do like the simplistic minimalist look. I will include a picture to illustrate. The issue I am having is with the idea of mating the floor to the walls, and also the walls to the ceiling. I could just throw up some baseboard, like will be in other rooms of the house. But I don't know that I have seen people lay wood baseboard on top of tile. Most of the time, the tile goes down to the floor. However this is usually done with tile floors too so the space is just grouted. If I am using the LVT, I will not be able to do a grout line. Does that only leave me an option to use a color matched silicone, kind of like I will be using around where the freestanding tub sits on the subfloor? Since it is a floating floor, I need to not put things on top of it and leave an expansion gap. As for the ceiling, I would assume I should do the same thing up there? Or would a crown moulding be a better choice? Seems to fall outside of the minimalist vibe.

However, if YOU have been coveting this look for a while, I would not be concerned about it being dated. My guess though is that you really want to get out of your comfort zone and try different. There are other tiles that can make a statement and not be trendy.
