Cold zoners, the newest Canadian Artist Rose
Comments (33)That looks good. My never alone had black spot & defoliated completely. So even though it says it's disease resistant, in my garden it isn't. It's planted near a kordes "rosanna" which is completely clean. It is in a bed that has morning shade, so that is not helping it out. It has full sun from 11 am to sundown. I will move it next spring to a full morning sun spot. We have also had terrible weather this year. Wet & cool. But here's the spring pic before the bs set in. I also wanted to add in a photo of oscar peterson. This is a great rose, the only canadian one that performs well, is disease free and vigorous. The only drawback is that the japanese beetles do like it. But they like about another 20 different roses too....See MoreDA The prince- good cold climate rose?

Comments (33)Summers did you hear back yet? I've been inspecting mine and one looks like it will be ok. It's green and has a few pink nubs on the canes. The other is more of a grey green and there is one nub near the base, but nothing otherwise looking alive on that one. I'm going to leave them soak for a while before I put them into pots. Sultry how long are you going to soak yours? When my J&P order came in earlier this spring I had planned to plant within a few days but go side tracked with wicked weather and inadvertently left them in water for about a week-ish and they are growing just fine now. Figure I might let these new ones soak for a while too since I've seen others post about doing that and having the roses be just fine....See MoreRegarding Bathsheba
Comments (9)Lily... this is a very vigorous rose, sending frequent shoots from the base [my plant is grafted]. Not many thorns, mostly smooth the further up it goes and multi branching habit, lots of canes to work with... my plant hasn't lost any of its leaves yet either, so it'll be one of the last to defoliate before Spring. The scent is strongly of myrrh, and I like it best when it smells like freshly cut grass, which it does sometimes. My plant is growing up an outbuilding, where it has support, and a bit of shade from the building. Fine for an arch or fence I would say, but if you have 'Crown Princess Margerita' or 'Teasing Georgia' I think they may be similar and perhaps you wouldn't want another like those but this has less thorns, which is nice. I don't know about very high prolonged summer heat though, I imagine the blooms might crisp a bit. I'll try post some photos later....See More- 3 years ago
