potting bench from pallets
Comments (17)Full disclosure. The legs and shelf were not made from pallets. Those are scrap pieces of wood we either already had or picked up at H.D. store in their scrap pile. If you guys haven't discovered the scrap wood bin, you are missing something. It is usually in the back of the store. They routinely sell nice odd-sized boards for $0.50. We used 2 on this project, so I technically spent $1 :) About the quality of the pallets. There are definitely some out there that are nicer than others. Just be patient and be picky....See MorePotting Bench!
Comments (9)Potting benches that actually get used take a lot oif abuse; water, soil, fertilizers. If it is "bare" wood now, I vote for sanding it down and giving it a healthy coat of boiled linseed oil for moisture protection. It has to e redone after a time, but it is not like have to scrape and sand for poly or paint. I wanted a potting ench in the worst way, too...a whole potting SHED as a matter of fact, lol! But I cleaned out my garage, then brought a woddshop workbench out of the asement that I was planning to get rid of. I don;t know what I was thinking! Mine has a big double slab of plywood for a top, and two homemade cabinets to go underneath with a cupboard and a drawer in each. Then there is space between the cabinets for soil and amendments. I LOVE mine! I use it all the time, it is nice and big, is the perfect height, and is up against a wall, on which I can hang a handbrush and dustpan, shelving, etc. Have fun! One word of caution if you decide to go the route of linseed oil. Clean your brush extra thoroughly afterwards and dry it completely, outside, before storing. Same with any rags you use. Without being properly washed and dried, rags for linseed oil can spontaneously combust. It can really bring out the natural beauty of your wood, though, and is non-toxic....See MoreLooking for ideas for outdoor furniture for our new deck
Comments (15)Sorry I posted friday evening and was out of town over the weekend. My problem is I am not liking the dining sets sold because I am looking for something modern and those are only wood. DH doesn't want anything wood. I love the wicker conersation sets with white cushions so that it will bring a pop but it will not be good for MI weather. Maybe I could try buying a red cushion wicker set from Walmart and put some bright pillows along with a bistro set or use a folding table with plastic chairs for this year for a big party. What do you all think this set for my deck. I have pasted the link below. Thanks for all your help. Nanbella and Lizbeth-gardner: Thank you for the suggestion to not go white. It makes me think that it will not belong there. Roarah: I love your blue chairs with metal frame. It is beautiful. I will check out homedepot. DH doesn't want us to do wood. Otherwise teak will be a great idea because they have a lot of modern furniture for dining in teak. jab65: My costco doesn't have patio furniture anymore. I will check craigslist too. cyn247 and chemocurl: Maybe I have to wait for next spring. Because most of the stores are almost out of patio furniture. I could try using a folding table with table cloth for my large party this year. Annz: That is a geat suggestion to bring the pop of color from cushions and flowers. Comments (114)Overwhelmed? Perhaps you feel overwhelmed with the many design decisions you face, as one decision may limit choices of the next. So, you don't love the Huzz's rug? It seems too small for the space. Does he have an office space? Tuck it in there- maybe? the foyer? Add a couple of green pillows to enhance the green in the rug? If it must stay in the room, then layer it on top of a plainer weave-natural looking rug. It doesn't have to be a jute rug, but a BIGGER flat weave natural colored rug.. So, all the furniture can be anchored with their front legs on the rugs. Use a glass coffee table for visual lightness. I like your wall art. I think adding a blue would help with using those images. Or....set the tone in your foyer or your hallway. What hangs in your hallway or at the end of your hallway? If you have no other home for them, those images would look lovely in a hallway or guest room or at the end of a hall above a chest of drawers. Another guideline is a Light, a Bright, and a Dark. Your wall art has the ocean in them...Let navy or forest green be your dark? However, it may be easier to find blues-navy rugs in the stores, rather than green. So..... Use lots of plants! Green plants give life to a room. Observe the use of plants in the model homes. I loved model home shopping in California, as all are staged beautifully with all of the available upgrades...,Where I live now... It's just floor plans and builder grade-ugh! This model house has a warm decor scheme- that reminds me of Huzz rug- warm greens, orange, brick & neutrals. I like the wood carving wall art and wood boat tray in the master bath.... (That natural elements were needed to transport an ordinary bathroom to restful place) https://tours.stevenjamescollins.com/public/vtour/display/394521 This house is cocoa brown and citrus with seagrass stools. https://tours.stevenjamescollins.com/public/vtour/display/427418 Perhaps you can add more plants to your decor to get the feeling you're after. The link below has over 50 model homes. You'll see fluid whole house color schemes in all, as well as many plants. Plants add life to a room, as well as an additional color- GREEN! https://tours.stevenjamescollins.com (Thank you for your kind words. I loved green and Asian accents, like woven hats. He loved blue, which I liked, but I did not want an all indigo house. Our design scheme evolved from our possessions and favorite colors.) These wood pieces - Uttermost Rennick- seen them in several model homes in the house as well as patio wall art. I love their handmade look. You could buy or DIY...https://www.amazon.com/Uttermost-04014-Rennick-Reclaimed-Brown/dp/B0061Q5YS0 Another version of wood wall art pecan wood Uttermost Fendrel mirrors (2setsof four here) They have been discontinued.
