Shower Niche vs. Corner Shelves
Comments (28)@thisisnotadrill That is a great suggestion that I just did last night and it saved me $20 and maybe my marriage! I cut out both the rectangular, the quadrilateral as well as the triangle shelf and the other corner shelf that is triangular but more squared off. Everything will fit on two of them. I almost ordered the quadrilateral one but the wife prefered the shelf-E with corner/squared off one. Plus, I am putting one of the triangle corner shelves at the first grout line 24" high for her to put her foot on to help shave her legs....See Moreshower niches vs wire rack corner units
Comments (10)I have slightly high ceilings, and I had a really hard time finding a floor-to-ceiling wire unit. At first, the only one I could find was from Frontgate, and it was more than $100!!!! Then I found one at Bed Bath & Beyond that could be made long enough to reach all the way. It's definitely sturdy enough. And the price was right--under $30. I think the wire pole has more visual clutter. That's about the only drawback, I think. And they don't look high-end. Were I starting from scratch, given that my home is mid to high range in my neighborhood, I'd probably try to do something more permanent, less "jury rigged" looking. I sometimes consider getting a wall-mounted dispenser instead. My sis had a problem w/ all the shampoos falling on the floor all the time, bcs there were too many for the little niche, etc. I got her a 'The Dispenser," and encouraged her to tell her teens that they had to use the same brand of shampoo. I think that's what she did....See MoreMaster bathroom reveal - cottage/farmhouse/vintage style
Comments (11)I love the casual comfort of your space, recognizing all the planning it took to achieve that feel! The wainscotting, soapstone, and hex tile floor make that happen for me, as do all the personal touches like the picture shelves and your lovely barnyard art. I love the thoughtful touches like the med cab placement, the shower' s window, and the foot-rest shelf in the shower - which I may be stealing! And saving the chute, even though that meant re-routing it, is just another example of the care and you took to get it right. I have a possible solution to the hand towel dilemma. Remember how farm kitchens often have those three-fingered towel holders under the sink to hold kitchen towels as they dry? The ones where the three rods come out from a center hinge and can be rotated into any position from all lined up together when not in use to spread far apart so that towels on them can dry? Ginger makes them now in two-rod style in nice finishes for the bath. 16" long. It would really match your farmhouse feel. Where to place it is your problem, you are thinking. I say, put it on the wall just in front of the vanity. You often step away from a sink when done, so the towel will be handy. Rings bunch up the towel and it takes longer to dry. Either this Ginger 0322-16 or any straight towel bar in a 12" or 16" size works, height-wise. Because I am on my Kindle and lost an entire post yesterday by touching somewhere on the screen on accident, I am going to post now, then try to link to the Ginger bar in another post. PS: I love the the violet wall color!...See MoreDoes this bathroom sink placement look okay?
Comments (31)It looks fine and achieved what you wanted. People love to follow the norm and never challenge what is traditionally done. In reality vanity counters are always cluttered with care products. Creating a space behind the sink is rater clever. In a bath having the sink as close to the forward edge is the best solution as you pull away from the sink from washing the water drips into the sink rather then the counter. I would guess you wanted the faucet closer to the sink but that is dictated by faucet and sink design. You have to have clearance for a faucet to be secured to the top which is done by a nut. This dictates how close you can actually get to the sink. It look fine and we follow many design aspects that make little sense. Take the counter where the faucet is mounted. If counters were cut with slope into the sink where the faucet is water would be directed into the sink everytime we shut off a faucet with wet hands. Nobody wants to change or challenge these technical details but obviously there is room for improvement....See MoreVijay J
