I am a Realtor in the Seattle area and have seen lots of floor products. I chose Mannington Sobella vinyl (and my friends were all very curious.) It just got put down last week and it looks beautiful...really very much like slate. It is warmer and cushier than tile and it allowed me to put my money in upper-end cabinets and granite. You want to reach down and touch it to see if it's actually slate! It is a matte finish, so no shiny vinyl look and is somewhat textured.If I could figure out how to add photos, I would do it! :)

I agree with sailormann! I had engineered wood installed in my whole house (except for kitchen) with two active dogs & it's great. But with my current kitchen re-do my KD said exactly what sailormann said, he only recommends solid hardwood. Are you sure the price of porcelain is out of your reach? That's what we are doing & found an excellent deal. I never have cared for laminates, high-end or not unless it's in a basement. Only my opinion of course!

Please just don't make the mistake I made; as I mentioned in another thread somewhere, I have black marble floor in the kitchen in our present home, So hard to keep it looking new and worst flooring for our kitchen. Our new house will have traventine floors throughout with radiant heating (except formal living & dining rooms). I'd love to install granite floors but doubt if it comes in very light colors and quantiy we need. I have strandwoven hardwood floors in our current basement, I installed/glued directly on concrete floor, feels so warm and I love it, however baby it too much and wife will have nothing to do with such flooring in the kitchen.

Hi Gretchen. I can’t see the layout 😢 To me, when I look at that door I see way too much detail in the profile, all of it outlined in black, in addition to the distressed wood. It is a very heavy look for a small space. This is about what you like. If you like the glaze, go for it, but I think you should look at images of spaces in which that door has been installed, and make sure it gives you the look you are hoping for. So what is the look you are hoping for? I think you need inspiration images. Google images of small kitchens that use wood cabinetry and see what you think is pretty. You will learn a lot about your own taste, and you will get a lot of good information from them. I only found one with wood cabinets that I thought pretty, but I’m sure you will find more. By the way, the way to keep your space from looking like a wood suit is to choose a darker (or much lighter) wood for the cabinets than the oak of the floors. Since you used the word “modern” I’m going to just let you know that a simpler door profile in walnut would be gorgeous. It could not be more different from the door you are considering though.
