No problem at all ... the keys to not having anything sticking up behind on a free-standing range (other than making sure the knobs are on the front) are (1) using the island trim and (2) having a non-flammable backsplash, so you are allowed to use the island trim. So the one problem I would see is that if you aren't installing your backsplash right away, you may need to temporarily install a riser trim of some sort in the interim. The Viking is actually very nice, it just doesn't get a lot of love because of (a) the general Viking hate and (2) the fact that it really is pretty expensive for what you get. It varies a bit depending on what part of the country you are in, but here in Northern California the price for a white one is a little over $7000. If you buy before 9/31, there is a $500 rebate on all Viking ranges going on, but that still only brings you down to $6500 or so. I think the Electrolux slide-in is the next most expensive induction range available in NA, and it is only about $3000 - i.e., less than half the price. That being said, it is also the only truly "pro-style" induction range available, the only one available in colors, and arguably has better oven features. If the look or color is important to you, it may be worth it. I mean, people spend more on La Canche just for the color too. In the end, for these very reasons we have settled in on buying one ourselves. My wife fell in love with the induction range in Chocolate, and we are going to go for it despite the negativity. So if you do decide to go for it, I support the decision!

tiffeslan, the Gagg is still working out fine for us. Occasionally (not frequently) I hear a buzz but adjusting the placement of the cookware seems to solve the issue. We enjoy the ability to place pots/pans anywhere on the surface and have the size detected. Sliding those pots and pans around so easily probably contributes to scratching, however. We also like and frequently use the cooking timer that each cooking position offers. The timer has been very useful, particularly since certain people in the house have a tendency to put something on to cook and then wander off. ;) The specs on the Gagg indicate that it allows for cookware “as small as 3 inches…” I can confirm, having had someone inadvertently “cook” their metal travel mug. Oops! I’ve had one visitor tell me she was uncomfortable using induction after “always having a gas range.” I’ve not had a gas cooktop so can’t weigh in. Although we are not gourmet cooks (the first use of our beautiful Gagg was for a can of Spaghetti-O’s lol), we would definitely choose induction again. We love our Gagg and would most likely repurchase if in the market for a new cooktop. Hope this helps! I’m happy to answer any questions you might have.

I don't have many clients who use induction cooktops or ranges nor do I recommend them very often. Seems to me that the more electronic/computerized appliances become, the more apt they are to go awry. Getting to the point where we'll need Geek Squad IT support for our kitchens and that is not a happy thought! But to answer your question, you basically have two options: Get Wolf to refund your money and buy a different model from a different manufacturer, or ask Wolf to exchange it for a gas or electric model. If you bought this unit via a reputable appliance dealer, enlist your salesperson to help you navigate this situation. They certainly don't want to risk the chance of bad Yelp reviews or miss the opportunity for you to be a repeat customer. Oh, and one other thought: if you happen to have purchased this item with a credit card, the credit card companies sometimes have purchase protection services. If the product is unsatisfactory, you might be able to get some or all of your money back.

Service Requirements Adding to and confirming what kevinande said, I did find the Installation Manual and it says at the top of page 9 that: "A range cord rated at 40 amps with 125/250 minimum volt range is required. A 50 amp range cord is not recommended but if used, it should be marked for use with nominal 1 3⁄8" diameter connection openings." It took some gyrations to get that manual to display from the Samsung support page. IIRC, there was a screen on which I had to uncheck the "English" button so it would download the pdf of the multi-language version rather than directing me to a "page not found" when the English button was checked. Also, some vendor sites, like Home Depot, spec this range as requiring a 40 Amp circuit. (See this link and scroll down to the "specs" section.) FWIW, we've also had a thread or two in the last couple of years complaining about how hard Samsung makes it to find the circuit requirements. For example, there are the GE Cafe induction ranges (some of which are twice as expensive as that Samsung) and the Miele induction range (which is twice as expensive as the GE models.) As a long time gardenwebber, you doubtless know that we've had only a few discussions here of the LG induction ranges and not much of anything about the current Samsung induction models. Were I shopping now, something that might tip me towards the LGs is being able to get them through Costco. That would make it easy to return for a full refund if I didn't like it. FWIW, if you have not already seen it, the Yale Appliance Blog reports that they have a very low rate of warranty service calls on the Samsung induction range models they sell. But, YA also notes that Samsung contracts out its warranty service and has terrible post-sale customer support in too many instances. A further FWIW, if you have not already seen it, is the recent Consumer Reports summary chart of its long-term appliance reliability survey data (available free at this link ). The members are rather less sanguine than YA. CR members have reported that Samsung electric ranges have had only so-so reliability. BTW, what happened with the Kenmore induction stove that you had for so long?
