Grey walls and potentially gray sofa.... what accent colors to use?
Comments (5)You should choose your colors based upon what you want to live with year-round, and not concern yourself with seasonal decorating. I think blues and greens would be pretty, or perhaps purples and greens. I even like a terra cotta / rust color with those shades....See MoreDo you use the same color pallette/color schemes over and over?
Comments (7)First photo is the antique house, second house I did in lighter colors; third and maybe final house (downsize), I used white, taupes and Ikat fabrics Before all of these homes, when children were young, I loved a more formal look with oriental rugs and mahogany furniture. Then we moved to a condo in Harvard Square. There was a Crate and Barrel furniture store there and I went in that direction (will never do that again…as you say, Is1114, it wasn’t “me”.). Onward to a Maine Post and Beam, using furniture I brought from the formal house and that is where I made my mistake. What you love in one house may never look right or feel right in another. Sorry for the ramble…I just went down memory lane....See MoreTrim Color for Useful Gray
Comments (7)@Grace Dane Using different whites in a space can be done successfully. There are a few parameters to follow to help make it successful. The two most important are: Is there a difference of at minimum 0.2 chromatically, and are they spaced far enough apart on the color wheel to look nice together. This last does take personal taste into account. If you look at the infograph above, Alabaster and Extra White have a 0.34 chromatic (colorfulness) difference, which is nice because that difference will ensure that one color, Extra White, will look more neutral. They sit apart on the color wheel and visually, I think the pairing works. Only you can decide if you like it. Paint a leftover piece of trim or poster board with Alabaster and put it next to the cabinets and move it around your rooms for a few days, before painting everything. Test, Test, Test! Keep in mind that the colors will be seen with distance between then, from room to room, and that will also help create a layering effect of white. One trick to use if you want to add more connection, is to try to find a off-white and white throw pillows for the family room, or off-white canasters for the kitchen. By moving the different whites into each space, it looks planned and intentional. You might already have this working for you with the white matts in your pictures, but you can add more....See MoreWhat gray grout color should I use???
Comments (6)So, I have an older 2016 TCNA handbook. When I was remodeling several years ago and considering glass tile, I read about it in the handbook. There are some challenges that are unique with glass tile. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t choose it. It just means you should verify that the tile pro knows how to install it. Ask the tile pro what he does differently when working with glass tile. If he says “nothing,” then he’s not the right pro. He should be able to address how he handles these topics depending on your exact material: - waterproofing method - mesh tape, how to make it not show - thinset color, consistence and coverage - avoiding excess thinset, shrinkage and ghosting It’s been a while, so I don’t know all the details, I just remember reading a bit about it in the handbook, which I was reading so I’d know what questions to ask. You should also have the manufacturer’s instructions on hand. I love that tile. Good luck!...See MoreMarylee H
