Update on my room: need furniture arrangement/drapes advice
Comments (17)You know, now that I'm looking at this again, I would probably have to say I like the panels better than the valance -- however, I think two things initially threw me off. I agree that there's maybe too much panel. (And, as a hobby sewer I would personally NOT go to a fabric place to have my drapes made -- especially panels -- because they would charge way too much. If you did want custom panels, but you don't sew yourself, maybe go to your local fabric store, and see if they have business cards for local people that could sew for you, if you buy the fabric. Or see if there's anyone you know that could do it.) Also, could you have a more substantial rod. Seems to me something a little thicker might look a little better. And, one last thing, if you don't mind me babbling on (^_^), while I like the mirror you have over the mantle, I would personally replace it. I think on some decorating show I saw that they suggest against it, because when you're sitting (and really, standing, depending on the height of the mirror and wall), all you see reflected in the mirror is ... the ceiling. I would suggest either moving it (along with either other pictures/sconces/mirrors) to the blank wall, or get a larger mirror to put on that wall -- as a plus, it would reflect the light from the window opposite it. (It's hard to tell dimenions, but even a narrow console table against that wall might look good.) Oh, and random, but I agree with getting a more substantial side table to put in between the couch and chair, instead of the small pedestal table. Anywho, just some thoughts! ^_^ (And I hope you show piccies of your kitchen when you start on that.)...See MoreAdvice on updating furniture in a large room
Comments (19)We think a few things need to be considered here. What design are you going for? What designs do you like? You painted it white, but bought all of the furnishings for the wooded lodge type place. The red carpet must go now that it is painted white. It doesn't go at all. We recommend getting a carpet to put over the red, or replace it entirely. We recommend something neutral. We would implore you to take a look on this site at other peoples lodges that have been painted white. Perhaps take a look at this link or do a more through search on here: https://www.houzz.com/photos/rustic/living/query/rustic-lodge-white/nqrwns...See MoreFireplace redo advice - floating mantle and stacked stone
Comments (1)What is the style of your furniture and surrounding decor? with low ceilings I would make Entire fireplace Wall up to ceiling very simple smooth large Neutral or white marble tiles.... no stone.....hang a gorgeous mirror over it to reflect light into the room...No mantle you will have area in the bookcase to place some pretty Acessories ..remove some shelves before painting so you can patch what is needed. I would only have 2 shelves...paint it all a neutral Or white to match fireplace tiles......See MoreAdvice on Exterior Paint and Home Facade Update
Comments (43)"So what you'd need to do is remove the bushes and then take a completely new, updated set of pictures that pan across the yard, from lot line to lot line -- where the photographer is lined up with the front door and is no more than about 25' or 30' away from the house. It will probably be better to hold the camera in the vertical format so we can see some of the tree canopy." Lined up with front door means looking straight at it, not aligned with a walk that goes radically toward the side. Panning from lot line to lot line means that the camera stays at one location and pivots, showing the entire width of the yard in a series of slightly overlapping pictures ... not just to the edge of the house, but includes the space that surrounds the ends of the house. Vertical format means hold the camera to use it in the "portrait" mode. No more than 25' or 30' feet away means check your distance with a tape measure....See Morebonandlee
