Kind of an exciting day in Sproutland :)
Comments (4)Many of mine haven't sprouted. Some just one or two and don't know if the others will come along or not. Surprisingly, the Tithonia I planted way back in January which was far too early for that is starting to sprout. And the Adenophora Bulleyana I failed with 2 winters ago, have two sprouts aka Ladybells, look pretty on the pkt, look true blue but may be another purple. Also have quite a few pansies sprouting, some older Johnny Jump Ups but not too many, and think I saw a couple of my Alpine Columbine. My Candy Mountain foxgloves there are lots, two kinds of delphs have put up quite a few, the most wanted now that I've seen what their early leaves look like (pointed), I think not but two of another kind. Think I have a couple Livermore Poppy sprouts. Also some pansies and violas are showing up, VA bluebells, thought I saw some Prairie Smoke but can't remember where and what kind of container it's in, a few aconitis, think some Verbena bonariensis. Several others I've already mentioned. The warm spell caused some to suddenly appear, but it's gotten too cool again to see much new activity while it lasts. Supposed to be 70's the next 3 days. Some have sprouts that don't seem to belong in there, either mis-planted, isolated ones that got into seed pkts, or came up from the potting soil will wait and see on those. Had significant rain, seemed gentle, but still have to watch things drying out anyway, especially noted some in the edges or corners. Now that they're off, I'm leaving off most of the covers and watching the forecast, am dropping the lids on my Jiffy covers once the sun isn't hitting them until it gets too hot....See MoreTwo-Toned Kitchen - 10 days in progress
Comments (97)Thank you kksmama. I think there were a number of factors in the relative speed of our renovation. For starters, we were not changing the layout or footprint of the kitchen, just putting in all new stuff. Also our floors were already done. I didn't have a GC per se, but a project manager (and personal friend) who has a good network of contractors. He sourced all of the tradespeople for me, and we had them out to the house to give estimates and timeframes well before demo day. Once we had a cabinet installation date, we were able to loosely pre-schedule the contractors, as in "we will need you for 2 days during the week of xxx". The goal was to be 3 weeks without a kitchen. In the end it was 36 days from demo to operational, and 40 days to completion. I also made sure that every single solitary item--from appliances to cabinet pulls--were chosen and ordered at the same time as ordering cabinetry. There were months of planning and meetings before anyone touched my old kitchen, and all of the new materials were here in the garage before demo. We went with Lowe's for the cabinetry and countertops. They sent a team of 3 to install the cabinetry, and got most of it done in one day. It's not a big kitchen. Both the sales and installation people we worked with were very professional and reliable. And, since they were also doing the counters, they were able to coordinate the templating to happen soonafter the lower cabinets were placed. The appliances and sink and faucet were waiting in the garage, so there was no delay in taking the measurements. There were days when contractors were tripping over each other, but everyone got their jobs done despite having to share the space with one another....See MoreAn exciting day....new rose bed unveiled
Comments (14)Oh wouldnt that be wonderful!! a garden party...I'm in:)) Thankyou everyone for your words of encouragement and enthusiasm. Yes ,ginnybee and ashmeri :a cup of tea would be beautiful and I have a lovely spot to sit where I can enjoy the garden MM I have other spots I can put some of the other roses which will be near the new bed and add pink ,white and purple roses around the corner of the bed.The soil has been improved and manure added so we are waiting for it to settle. The pink bed will connect the side garden bed and the new bed.I will plant some more around the front of the house. That is another story.I will just have a few around the front...its good there as it is thank goodness! The back was the huge job. So I will have some in pots on the patio.I love that. So...its a long story but I can see that soon I will be able to relax, think about garden parties and the lovely calm time to enjoy the result of some very hard work over 2-3 years:)) cheers Michelle PS I will post some more pics as the beds take shape and lose their "young look"....See MoreIt's an exciting day for my husband!
Comments (33)Jem, Monday was just the first day that he could turn in his official paperwork for retirement.....to get the ball rolling through the university and state retirement systems. His actual last day is July 2. He's pretty self motivated......I won't need to create busy work for him. He's a young 61, with lots of friends outside work, fun activities that he's looking forward to participating in more fully, and an interest in becoming more involved with the community. I so appreciate everyone's well wishes! It is an exciting time for someone who has worked hard and long for his whole life....See Moreamylou321
