Bathrooms Design Dilemma Flooring

Tile size for very small bathroom?

1950 cape cod style home has a very small full bathroom upstairs. Existing flooring needs to be replaced along with the tub surround, sink and toilet. slanted ceiling above shower/tub combo makes it even worse. Suggestions for flooring to help make it look more open/larger?

If your remodel needs a permit and the bathroom is really small, it might not pass code due to current requirements such as clear space needed in front of and on both sides of toilet. It might help if you posted a sketch with dimensions.

We nee a to scale floor plan and I like bigger tiles in small bathrooms but I need to know the size of the space and the layout. BTW a full gut job is IMO the best way to handle bathroom renos since if the surround needs replacing you need to rip all theat out anyway so good time to replace the tub with a soaker too. Where I live some of the new code is not needed to meet as long as the space stays the same and you are just replacing items.

Wooo!!! Cat, I am stuck at home because of the snow storm so wandered around here not looking at anything in particular and came upon your thread. I totally agree with you on the shower curtain choice. Regardless of whether I have the money to spare or not, keeping those suckers clean is a nuisance over time. We have a glass shower door that was installed back in 2003 and I can't tell you how much I hate cleaning it. Not that the door is all that dirty, but a shower curtain is way easier, and you can change the look/style whenever you feel like it. Can't do that with a pricey shower door. Anyway, everything looks lovely as usual, including the "prom" dress :-) Love, love those circular tiles, and the floor tiles that look like fabric. Gorgeous. What colour is that again? It looks greyish on my monitor.

The grout doesn't have to be dark to set off the white tile. I think it looks best with a very pale grey. We went with the 2" hex, but wish we had gone with 1" or smaller just because it would hide the dirt better with more grout lines. If you do a search for jejvtr's pictures she has the 1" hex. Ours with the 2" before the threshold was installed

I personally think 30cm X 60cm would be a big size if you are considering for small bathrooms. Your first decision might be to consider the bathroom’s style as a whole and if you want a more quaint or modern look (and I don‘t think the tile size is important). Suggest looking at lots of inspiration pictures and then floor and tub surround will be much easier to choose and coordinate
