What size tile for a small bathroom?

This bathroom is a typical small hallway bath with a shower/tub combo, 30" vanity, commode and closet. We're having it tiled Friday and need opinions on whether we should use 6" tile or 12" tile.

Could use some expert advice on what size tiles to put in a small bath. Color recommendations is appreciated too!

Hi Dee,
I'm no expert but I've been told that a larger tile can make the room feel bigger. I used 16x16 in one bath and 12x12 in another. Both baths are small. It could be all in my head but I do think it makes them feel roomier. Again, I'm no expert but I believe light colors typically help small rooms appear larger and brighter.

Yup, larger tiles and tiles on a diagonal will help to make the room look more open.

I like the idea of a smaller tile on the floor so that the grout line provides added traction. The 2x2 trim, may be something you'd like on the walls but it might not lend itself to spacious open spaces. To me it will break up the space and make it look smaller, but I may be wrong. Have you gone to houzz yet as Babka suggested? There are millions and millions of bathroom pictures. I always appreciate that people provide comments, even if well after the original posting date, as I am one who researches things and may be awhile going forth with a project. However, this bathroom update was completed months ago. I chose the larger tiles and am glad I did. BTW, the tile manufacturer will provide details on tile layout. This happened to be an Italian porcelain tile and, as far as offset, it needed to be in thirds, not half. Additionally, this tile was thicker than most porcelain tiles, so something to consider when you purchase tile. Cleaning was never an issue, only room size and perspective. My tile guy always does great work.

If you go to a designer, you could get a 12" deep cabinet and transition to an 18" deep cabinet. You need to be careful of sink sizes with an 18 - many sinks are designed to only fit a 21" deep cabinet. I would go with minimum 16x16. Even larger would look nice.
