Rural women baked their own bread. Flour was purchased in various sized bags, commonly 25 or 50 pounds. For years these bags were white with the company's logo printed on them. When the bags were emptied they were washed and placed in a sunny spot on the grass in the yard to bleach. They were often used as dishtowels. However, many a little girl wore panties made from them.

Sometime in the late thirties or forties the companies began using bags printed with various attractive designs. There was an explosion of new aprons, girl's dresses, curtains, and anything that could be made from these. Women would try to get several bags with matching prints to use for larger items. We were still engulfed in the depression and had learned to be thrifty.
