Small bedrooms with BIG beds??
Comments (41)Totally agree with you on the form factor of the futon. I am not loving it either. But we have it and until I find some thing better in my price range. It is very comfortable to nap on left in the couch position. Also to sit on and read. I pull the desk /sewing table chair over for feet up position. It is a small cheerful room that makes me happy to be in. Our company said the futon is great for a few days. He usually spends 4 or 5 nights with us at a time. I added a foam topper on it. Drawbacks on other sleeping options. Twin love seat sleeper will not be long enough for our friend. He sleeps cross wise on the full sized futon. The click clack couches are darling but also too short. We have cats that will claw so air bed is out of the question. LOL The nicer looking couch futons are so uncomfortable. Fold out beds usually have the bars in them in the center of your back unless you can get the ones with springs all around the edges and a mat to hold the mattress. AND the fold out beds take up more floor space when open if that is an issue for you. You should be fine in a 10 by 10 room though. I would think my best option should I ditch the futon would be a murphy. But then I do go in there and nap on the futon some times so that would be over with. Also when I am sewing I find myself sitting down on the futon to do little bits of hand work when needed. We did buy the upgraded mattress. I am not trying to talk you into a futon at all because I totally think they are ugly as sin. I did doll mine up with pretty comforter and pillows and a friends granddaughter said the guest room is very girly. LOL...See MoreWhere should I put my bedroom furniture in our new apartment?
Comments (3)I would put the bed under the window; proven you get more restful secure sleep when the bed is on the wall opposite the entry door. If you plan to have TV here, place the wider dresser left of the door and put TV on it. If no TV, then put the dresser in the alcove so the light from the window will help you see yourself in the mirror (hung vertically.) Place the taller dresser on any of the remaining walls that make it convenient for storing folded clothing that you want to access as you're on your way to the bath. Art and window treatments will help flesh out the rest of the room....See MoreWhat size rug should I be aiming at for my bedroom?
Comments (16)Thank you all! We definitely prefer wool -- I wasn't seriously considering the amazon one, except it was a shaggier type which I liked. We may indeed go with the wool one. Thank you for the feedback to go larger! And yes...we will be orienting this rug wide not long -- but we are just going to do it when we get the new rug, since I don't like the heavy dark colors in our already dark bedroom. Re: "unmade bed"...not sure if that was a joke or a jab....that bed was made, by our standards -- not as tidily as usual maybe, but honestly some days we're lucky *anything* gets done around the house, given the toll full-time demanding jobs, kids, commutes, and everything else can take on our time. I did apologize for the untidy look of the room, but I'm not sure why someone felt the need to leave such a comment in a forum that is intended to be supportive. All others, thank you so much for your help!! Very much appreciated. We're planning to get the rug in a few weeks, and I'll be sure to post updated pics here....See MoreShould I stain my 1950s bedroom set?
Comments (16)I’m in the “clean it up but don’t try to sand and refinish it” camp. If there are any particularly problematic areas on the furniture, a good woodworker-craftsman-refinisher could do repairs or touch-ups. Seattle MCM’s suggestions of the new hardware and white linens are great, but I disagree with a sisal rug. They are too scratchy for a bedroom where you would be walking barefoot. Select a style of hardware that goes with the lamps and the furniture – nothing too modern. The red rug and the dresser cloths under the glass on the nightstands could be stored away, along with the old dresser hardware. Without seeing the rest of the room, it’s hard to know if the furniture could be arranged any other way, but it seems like the TV is too large for the size of the room. Let the furniture be the star. After all that is done, see if the room needs some color – perhaps a solid color linen accent panel at the foot of the bed and matching pillow covers. Love the retro accessories on the dresser!...See MoreRelated Professionals
