(I’m viewing on a small phone screen) It looks more like a washstand (or a bar?) then a sideboard. The numbers and the type of wood on the back would age it to be “not really too old”. 😊

eta: what’s behind the doors? A large space to hold a wash basin? Or shelves?

Yeah, I know nothing about this but was intrigued as well. I also thought it was curious about the numbers on the back. I wonder if it is from when someone "restored" or refinished it?

isont think it is a wash stand. It is not large enough and has cut outs for glassware. I have thought prohibition but was caught up by the back. I posted on the antique forum as well... I think. This is my first post so I hope it worked

It's a pretty typical piece from the "Early American" style popular in the 50's and 60's....even into the 70's. Looks like it was made to be a bar or perhaps a server in the dining room. Not a particularly high quality piece as shown by the particle board backing...But certainly useful!

Search vintage small sideboard or dry bar.

It's a particularly nice design because it's subtle. It'll go with just about everything.

A lot of the early American style stuff sort of screams it and tries a little bit too hard. :) But most of it is solid stuff.

Since yours has been refinished, it looks different from other things that might match. They are usually a nice orange maple.

Do a google image search for "ethan allen early american" to get a feel for the typical look of these things. (EA isn't the only maker but they did a LOT.)

I agree that this is likely 1960-1970s colonial revival. I am not sure at all, but I think particle board backs did not come into mass market furniture until the 1950s. I have a bedroom set from the late 1950s that has very sturdy particle board, and similar stenciling on the backs.

That sliding top and the hidden compartment make it pretty cool. I didn’t see them yesterday when I posted. The back material is what is confusing.

Perhaps the numbers stamped on the back are the date of manufacture.

I have furniture form the late 50's and there is no particle board. If it has been refinished, those knobs/handles are likely replacements. I have the same knobs on some kitchen cabinets that were redone in 85.

I believe those numbers reflect the manufacturer’s item number. The little wavy edge on the back seems reminiscent of the late 50s-mid 60s “Early American” style. My mother furnished our family room in about 1963 (complete with ruffled lamp shades). Think I Love Lucy buying her new furniture for her farmhouse in 1957. But my mom’s dough box end table did not even have particle board.
