American Range 36" - Michigan dealers/distrib online ordering?
Comments (4)Thanks - i am going to look into that Ebay seller for sure. i called Kitchenall - they are a kitchen supplier who *say* that they get good prices on their American Range residential ranges because they have a well-developed commercial supply business. I can get the ARROB636N for about $4700 total, no shipping or lift gate charges and including the upcharges - color, the 4 inch backguard and the leg covers - these are all upcharges for the unit. So far, this is the best price I have found without making a bunch of phone calls to competitors. I did call American range to get a distributor - the closest in Ohio (I'm in Michigan). They referred me to 4 dealers in Michigan who are all at least 2 hours away and who, sadly, do not ship out of the local area. So, I think I will have to rely on the online company to get this unit. I did call American Range and spoke with technical support becasue I was concerned there may not be any local servicers. Happily, the technician was able to give me three different local servicers within about 1/2 hour from my home - so I feel much better knowing there is someone to install and to repair if necessary. The technician at American Range was very helpful and answered all of my questions at this point. I also asked him as the "problem" guy what were the recurring problems with this range and he said there really weren't too many, but did say something about ignitors that were fixed last year. he said the unit is built like a tank and is simple without a lot of gizmos and electronics. One other note, if you are interested in a color like I am, you can call the sales department at American Range and they will send you a color chip. The dealers I spoke with did not have these and really did not have an idea how to go about getting one. Comments (12)The upward velocity of induction cooking plumes can be lower than with gas cooking due to the gas combustion products aiding the gas cooking plume. This potentially reduces the needed CFM/sq.ft. for containment. (Not applicable to unintended flambes.) However, the expansion angle of the plumes that drive hood overlap may not decrease much. (I don't have time to look up the relevant paper at the moment, but will get back to the subject this evening, if possible.) Upping the CFM above that normally needed will slightly increase the effective capture aperture, and may be sufficient. Comments (9)In Europe, buying a separate cooktop and wall oven is a very common configuration. So, if you are in that market, I wouldn't hesitate. But in the US, manufacturers don't really plan for this particular configuration. Wall ovens often are too tall, resulting in the door being too close to the floor and the top of the appliances hitting the cooktop. I'd strongly discourage you from going this route. If you do want a cooktop, then put the wall oven at roughly countertop height into one of your cabinets. It'll work much better that way. If you prefer a cooktop, get induction. I would never recommend cooktops for gas; it's just not as functional. Instead, with gas I'd get a rangetop (i.e. controls are on the front face of the cabinet). Bluestar makes a wonderful gas rangetop, by the way. If you do consider Bluestar, do not get the closed burner model. It's not playing to this brand's strength. We occasionally have this discussion on Houzz, and inevitably most people regret their decision, if they don't heed our advice. I strongly discourage you from buying a hood based on looks, only. While a hood looks like a very simple appliance, it is actually one of the more difficult things to get right. You'll regret your decision if you end up with something that looks good, but that is otherwise just noisy and doesn't actually vent. I probably would buy from a reputable vendor such as ModernAire or VentAHood, rather than from a general-purpose vendor. Miele makes great appliances in general, but vent hoods are really not their specialty. Comments (36)LindaLinda2 I only posted that info because many people (myself included) have had no idea of the health issues with gas stoves. I realize you were semi joking about not being dead because I’m assuming you’ve used a gas stove for a long time. The problem is, the stoves maybe won’t kill you, but are they worth it if they “just” make you a little more unhealthy as each year goes by? There are many products that have caused health problems decades after using that nobody knew about at the time. Then it’s all “oh geez, I wish I’d know about the health risks back then. I would have stopped using (whatever).” Asbestos, cigarettes, sunbathing, talc, the list is long.
